I've got seven weeks to make a "lawnmower beer". Forget the title meaning an easy thirst quencher, I want to make a beer that reeks of lawn mowing. Want a distinctive "grassy" smell. What hops / yeast do you reckon might get it ?

Is there such a thing as a "good" grassy smell in brewing ?

Grass smell preferred over two stroke fumes.

Edit : "Good" grassy smell.

id probably go for an american ale yeast (1056 / us05) .. keep it crisp

Dry hop with any American "C" hop chinhook, cascade etc if it's not grassy enough for you keg hop!

We do a Liquid Hop called "Herbal" that should give you exactly what you're after.

Herbal - Contains the compenents of hop oil that contribute a "green", grassy, fresh-hop character.

Just add 5ml to your keg or bottling bucket.

Cheers Ross

I'd say go with the New Zealand Cascade.
I used it once....never again too grassy for me.

Hey Lindsay

You wanna try tossing 30g of the stuff in a keg of Dark Mild. <_< Was a case of dryhopping gone lawn clippings. Not bad at all when it settles down though. OTOH First two weeks in the keg was like eating raw vegies and Geraniums.

If you really want the grassy/herbal thing. Try dryhopping with Spalt. Has it in abundance.

Australian Saaz used to give me a grassie flavour/arona for weeks. Would't touch it again.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Only need a "grassy" smell for one bottle so will make a couple of mini mini batches and try a few of your answers. Grassiest results wins.
