I can buy two cans of Coopers Barvarian Lager for around $15 at work because they go out of date in two months.

Would this be pretty good just on its own?

two cans and two yeasts

or should put any other fermentables in there or Hopps.

I'am open for suggestions.

Double the can means double the hop flavour/bitterness so unless you like your beers with a lot of hops then maybe you should stick to one can at a time. Ditch the yeast though for something better, maybe Saflager and keep the ferment temps to aroung 9-10 degrees.
The out of date thing is a worry though. The best beer is made with the freshest ingredients but at $15 for the 2 tins you're not going to lose much by giving it a try.

I was under the impression that Coopers Bavarian lager uses a true Lager yeast.

Tell me I'm dreaming.

Festa

Don't do it; I did as my second ever brew and regret it. The kit yeast is SafLager.

Maybe it does Festa but for the extra $ atleast I know I'd be getting the right stuff.

Just an overly bitter tasteless brew really. The Bavarian Lager isn't a bad beer as far as kits go - it's a good summer quaffer, but 2 cans just doesn't work.

Not to mention a much bigger mouthfeel than this style requires.

[edit] fat fingers.

I tried double dumping with coopers lager once before, turned out very bitter. Did not like it much at all. Of course, i still DRANK all of it, but i definatley wasnt a fan.

1 kits flavoursome enough two would be yukky to the max, maybe us a can with low flavours like a homebrand Lager?

And then just hydrate the saflager for it?

Ditch the idea of the 2 cans together. It will be that bitter your sink will throw it back at you !
Go with one can of the bavarian and 1 kg of DME. Add some noble hops and USE the yeast that comes with the tin. Try and ferment it under 18 degrees if possible and you will have a bloody delish summer lager.

Cheers

If you want to throw extra $$$ at it, then why not buy a can of LME and add that instead of the second can. At least the bittering level wouldn't be over the top....

FWIW, it is probably a cheaper option to sub a, $8.00 tin of extract for a $12.00 can of Bavarian Lager.

Fester.

Agreed!

FWIW, this is from the Coopers Web Site:

LIGHT GERMAN BOCK (approx 7.2%)

2 x 1.7kg Bavarian Lager cans
2 x 500g Light Dry Malt

Use the two yeast sachets (you can throw in another 11.5g Lager Yeast Sachet - from home brew specialist stores - if you like).

If you would like some more hop character bring the Malt dissolved in 2 litres of water up to a gentle boil (be careful that it doesn't foam over), add 50g of SAAZ hops, turn off the heat and let sit for 15mins.

Remove hops and add all ingredients to your fermenter, fill to the 23 litre mark with a target temperature of 21C (this may require the addition of fridge water). Allow the temperature to drop over the course of fermentation toward 13C. May take 14 days or so to reach FG.

The extra 1kg of DME will help to balance the bitterness from the two cans, it's not the same as a "two can" brew.

Have made this a couple of months ago. Very expensive, but rich and magnificent! I will do it again next winter. It's bitter but the malt definitely balances it out. Kit yeast works fine too...

Don't knock it
