Yes I've read his stuff.

He takes an empirical curve fit approach without attempting to understand why the data varies. I've taken the opposite approach, trying to find which bits of the data variation correspond to the theoretical constraints on the instrument.

I tried to contact him to look at correlations using his data set but got no response.
