Interesting read, I have always thought using "Trappist" as a style descriptor can be very misleading, lumping a beer like Orval into the same class as Rochefort 10 is to say the least problematic.

I think you're in good company in thinking that it's a bit of a stretch to think of "Trappist" as a beer style. You brought back a fun memory of mine when I tried a bottle of Orval for the first time and it gushed over the table... I thought something was wrong, but then I later discovered that Ovral can do that and it's fine! Cheers!
