mmmm some nice little ale critters there, Anyone got some lager yeast they can add?,...batz, Ross?

Also this by no means is limited to ten , it was just a number i came up with

I might be able to streak and culture up some
WY2308 Munich Lager, and maybe
Bohemian Pilsner (I think I have a slant??)

Hi guys, I don't post much, mainly stick to the chat sites where I get "instant answers" :)

but I am a brisbane all-grain brewer, and I would love to be in on the yeast swap. I have brewed with Ross before and (as far as I know :) he will vouch for me as an ok bloke.

Is it ok to use second generation yeast? the only reason I ask is that I have 4 vials of slurry from my last brew in White labs vials, so they look all neat and professional :)

otherwise I have WLP001, WLP800 and the san fran lager yeast from white labs as well.

sounds good to me, then - I don't have any small starter bottles, so is it ok to bring a litre of first generation slurry, for you guys to split up on the day??

I listed the yeasts I have earlier in the thread , just pick one or more that you want.

I don't think anyone added Pilsen 2007?

As I would. :) Having said that, if we waited until Dec 3rd AndrewQld would (probably?) be able to attend as well as any others who would have a long drive. It's far enough from the Coast to a gathering (and a few beers) without having to nip down from Bundy every time something like this comes up. Sometimes I miss the convenience of living in Brissie. Then I see the surf. :beerbang:

Just a thought.

coodgee some slurry would be fine, or come over with the others and ill show you how to plate/slant

Pilsen 2007 is a brilliant yeast, add it in if thats ok

Batz and Peter, and who ever else wants to, Im free anytime on mondays, but the rest of the week im at the shop till 830pm, but i stay up late........

Im more than happy to pass on what i have learned

Oz brewer,
Do you make your own pizza dough? Use bread yeast? Is there a visible difference between a bread strain and a beer strain? Hope you sanitise your hands thoroughly before plating
Just stirring Ya

I have a real life data point on the success of such a venture (as proposed by Ozbrewer) where HBers get together and exchange their fave yeasts. The idea was a good one at the time BUT it didn't turn out as well as it should have. Several brewers, all who are great brewers (No not me), made beers with one of the cultures. The starter tasted and smelled fine. For some reason there was a problem and ALL of the beers were undrinkable. AFAIK none of these guys would get yeast from another brewer again.
My feeling is that sometimes this will work but most often it won't. Fork out a few bucks for a fresh pack/tube and your success rate will be greatly increased.
I will not post anything more on this.

Good Keep your negative thoughts to yourself

and for every one else....alll my yeasts have come from other brewers over the years, ive had a few bad ones, and a hell of a lot of good ones, dont let negative people ruin a good idea, and a good little hobby, i have as much fun playing with yeast as i do brewing the beer

Darren,

Do you breed dogs????

Now THAT'S a thread hi-jack!!!!
