I just had my bottle filled up for the first time with CO2 (purchased full) and I've rettached the reg. The missus dropped it off to be filled, so I'm not sure what happened between home and back but...

When I apply pressure by turning the handle on the reg to get it to where I want when connected to a gas post, it bounces around and carries on at anything under 100kpa. Anything over 100kpa and it kicks in fine, but I don't really want to be serving anywhere near that pressure of course. It still fills the kegs and eventually settles, but the needle jerks around like mad and I can hear the gas 'spurting' into the kegs.

There is one thing that may cause it... the bottle is filled to 7000 kpa, instead of the usual (I presume the usual...) 5000kpa. Thoughts?

The bottle has been in the fridge for a couple of hours now and it's reading just a touch over 5000kpa, so it might have been reading so high because it was warm... either that or I have a leak!

They, or should, fill them after being chilled down. Maybe that had something to do with it?

Never heard of this in my life.

Gas popping noises and then settling would point to over pressure yes, wouldn't worry about it if it settles, you'll find it'll fix itself once the internal pressure drops. Or if you tried a reg with a bigger outlet you'd probably find it wouldn't do it.

Right... so I have a problem. The bottle got down to 4000kpa in just an hour or so, so I turned it off at the valve. I would think that losing that much pressure in such a short amount of time would have been noticeable, but soapy water on the bottle outlet, where the reg attaches, and the connections from the reg to the gas disconnect found nothing.

Help?

The pressure will read less when the bottle is chilled. gases take up less area at lower temperatures.
Take the bottle out of the fridge and the reading will most probably increase.
