ok, so i know you can get all sort of thermostats to use in old fridges to keep you're brew at the right temp, but since its coming into winter i've been wondering if theres an similar but opposite device.

I've got a brew belt, but its difficult to maintain a steady temp. I have an idea in my head of some sort of temperature probe, connected to a standard 240v passthrough, which switches whatever is plugged in on or off depending on the temperature of the probe.

does such a thing exist?

I bought the heater pad out of a water bed off ebay.. It has a temp controller on it too....aint used it yet

Now thats a good idea Linz
I might do the same

checkout www.mashmaster.com.au
The fridgemate has heating and cooling capacity (Note only heats to 70*C so it is not really suited to boiling and mashing processes) but for brew matters and heating belts no problem.

thanks brissybrew, is that your site? I've fired off an email since im not sure i understand just how it would work

For a cheaper option, get yourself a fish tank heater, and sit your fermenter in a sink/bath/container filled with water. The fish tank heater will keep it at a strict 20*C.

Thermostats that handle 240V are a little expensive.

Just looked at the www.mashmaster.com.au site. That is a great price for what it can do. Maybe the fish tank heater won't bethat much cheaper?
