Hey,

Looking for some input for hops for my next brew. Will be 40 litres and the grain bill is:
5kg IMC Ale
0.5kg Aus Wheat
0.5kg Crystal 140
0.5kg JWM Amber

Est OG 1036-1040

Going to use 1272 AM ale II starter.

Hops i have:
POR flowers
Cluster flowers
Amarillo pellets
Pacific Hallertau NZ pellets
Saaz pellets
Willamette pellets
Cascade pellets

I was thinking POR to bitter, and hallertau for flavour and aroma (haven't used it yet so im not sure) ??

My dogs tail gets in my beer all the time, so i thought i'd name this one after him!

Cheers,
Keith

I made an all Pacific Hallertau beer with the White Labs WLP051 which is supposedly similar(ish) to the 1272. It was a good combination. :chug: That said, you could probably use a number of other hops you have to make fine beers. Willamette, Cascade, Amarillo, Saaz, any of those would be tasty, separately or together.

I say go with your plan, and you can always make a different tasty beer next time. :super:

Hallertau is a fairly subdued hop to me, used more in Pilseners and Wheats.
To my knowledge anyway. To me it looks like a Pale Ale recipe, or not far off it.
I'd go with the Cluster, Cascade or Amarillo.
Use the POR for bittering and see whether you like it or not, and then mix it up with the rest.
