Had a leak on the SS brew bucket yesterday after transferring the chilled wort from the kettle ( through CFC )

The tap has an o'ring and nut on the inside on FV and it was dripping down the cone onto the floor.

In hindsight I should of put a medical glove on and wrapped my arm in gladwrap and proceeded to put my arm into the FV to tighten the nut, but In a moment of WTF.......I sprayed my hand/arm with starsan solution, weighted a minute and in it went.

Got it tightened up but was very very frustrated afterwards knowing full well that infected would be the likely outcome.

I got the fridge to cool from 30c to 19 in a couple of hours and pitched the yeast (wlp004), got up this morning and its fermenting.

Anyone else done something similar and what effect did it have?

Relax,it's wlp004. It'll chew the arse out of any infection and still be done in 3 days.

Probably be fine mate.

Give us an update in a few days.

I chucked hop flowers in the kettle on my first AG batch with a SS scrubbie as a filter which blocked straight away. I did the same as you and sprayed my arm with starsan and plucked it out. It blocked even worse after that so I tipped the keggle through a strainer into the FV trub and all! No infection and was amazing after all my K&K brews.

On the issue of the leaking taps I think I've solved that issue yesterday. I bought some thicker silicone o rings from China and have found by swapping the external o ring with one of the new ones, which are also a lot softer, I could rotate the tap in both directions multiple times with no leaks. Pm me your address if you want me to send you a couple so you can partake in the trial process!

I've been known to spray my hand in Starsan and squeeze out the overflowing hop bag when tipping out a hopped cube. Hasn't ruined a brew on me yet.

Nowadays I check my Brew bucket with a few litres of water for an hour before I put wort in.

I will keep you all updated. The 004 is ripping through it as I type.

Thanks for the input.

Best to pitch the yeast as soon as possible so the yeast can gain a foothold so nothing else can.

You need these

I pitched about 4 hours after this happened, usually it's not till the morning. Due to the circumstance I thought the best offence would be to pitch.

i hope its not the new case swap beer

When I went through a phase as a filthy glad-wrapper (I was peer pressured to try it) one of my lovely children thought it would be a good idea to rip a hole in the gladwrap and drop a toy in the wort.

No infection, but I don't know how clean your arm is!

Haha, I got out the wrong yeast for my case swap beer (Wlp023 burton for the case swap) and made my Westgate Exstoutaganza beer instead for the Melbourne comp.
