If I'm perfectly honest, I would say this whole thing felt very orchestrated from the point of view of the venue. I suspect that Mitch and Stone had little to do with the VIP crap.

I feel this way as much of the merchandise that was available (t-shirts, glasses etc) seemed to co-branded up with the venue logo. This suggests that all Stone had to do was get their ass over here with some kegs of beer and the rest would be sorted out for him when they arrived.

I have had nothing heard in the negative about Mitch himself, as I know people who have met him, and he seems happy to chew the fat about anything beer related. I have also read his IPA book, and he seems to be very enthusiastic about the beer rather than the marketing *****.

I still enjoyed myself with the samples I got, and I can see why they sold it in the way they did, but (rant alert) I really, really wish we could get away from this hipster-hype-overpriced-******y that we see in the beer scene these days.

This is probably a thread on it's own, but I really hate how all of these events are slowly becoming more about the gimmicks, and being seen in the right place, wearing the right t-shirt, with the right brewers.

Jeez, can we just get back to brewers being brewers, not rock stars? Can we just let them make good beer and allow real beer enthusiasts being able to enjoy them without feeling ripped-off? Do I really need to have my bar food served to me on a piece of wooden plank?

Sorry for the rant guys, I think I just saw one too many ned kelly beard/skinny jean combos last night.

Funny cos it's true.
Wooden boards, mini deep fryer baskets, people all dressed ironically identically and everything designed to part your money from your wallet.
An unfortunate taint attaching itself to an essentially working class beverage.

On the one hand, it's great to see care, passion and devotion being poured into something previously seen as cheap and mass produced but Bill Hicks was spot on about those in marketing and advertising.
 
Totally not surprised. Sorry to hear if anyone was disappointed though, but I don't understand the hype.
