I believe it will be a great stand alone thermometer. I check mine against my CDN and my javelin instant reads and while no two thermometers read exactly the same all three are within a 0.5 degree band and that's not adjusting the STC.

So, you could say it's on par with your CDN, Javelin and also a Thermopen?

I was just looking at this thread and wondered how a STC would shape up..
 
I ask what is classed as accurate for us, is within 0.5 c to a all mighty thermapen good enough? I have frustrated myself too much in the past trying to test and decide if my thermometers were accurate. I think a thermapen is all that's left for me to test, but I aint, I have tested enough ( 5 at a time) and just decided to have my javelin as my go to thermometer, all the rest read differently at different temps.
In saying that, with the STC I would check it against your go to thermometer and calibrate accordingly.
