So after work yesterday during a casual chat, I mentioned to my girlfriend that I was thinking of buying a keg freezer to save me the hassle of bottling. Now I know a lot of you have been through this conversation with your other halves, so Im sure you can understand the type of reaction I was expecting. But instead of the non-understanding response I was expecting, I got a semi-neutral reaction. So I started rambling about how it would save me time and effort over bottling, not to mention space that the bottles take up, etc etc. And then the strangest thing happened She suggested that we look on a local classifieds website and see whats available second-hand. I assumed she meant later down the track when I was serious about getting one, so I went off to fire up the BBQ for dinner. 10 minutes later, shes on the phone to someone asking about a chest freezer and now we have a 220L chest freezer sitting in our garage, perfect for 4-6 kegs.

What the hell just happened??

a miracle.

Thats awesome

Any chance we could trade other halves for one day?? Just long enough for me to get a chest freezer.....

I have already been told that if I want to buy myself a stockpot for an AG setup, she needs a new set of saucepans first....

You did say girlfriend didn't you? Perhaps she's looking for a promotion? Wife!!

Strike while the iron is hot !

Time for an upgrade to all your AG gear!

And a conical fermenter!

And a cool room!

What happened ? she's buttering you up because soon she'll be asking for something much more expensive than a second hand freezer ! :D

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth......................

Congratulations. One thing I want to warn you about is storing the thing unplugged - don't. If you can, plug it in and leave it running. I don't know the reason why, but if you take a previously running freezer and store it unpowered for a long time, the freon tends to leak out. I did in two freezers that way.

All I can say is, I hope it's not a trap. Would have to be the cruelest setup ever... :D

Cheers for the tip about plugging it in too newguy - I'll be doing that as soon as I can.

Now off to check out what Ross has in the way of keg setups...

It looks like you have had a visit from the "Brewing Whisperer" :p

Cheers

Paul

I would concur in regards to upgrading the AG setup, wtriking while the iron is hot!
Or at least get the all clear for keg purchase to fill that freezer!

My partner 3months ago was saying YOUR NOT GETTING A KEG-SETUP, that is until I leave all the bottles on the kitchen bench, buy a 2nd hand fridge for my kegerator, spend all my time on the forum. ;)

I just ended up coming to an agreement and said, If I wanted to get one now I would but, how bout I put my birthday money aside(bought a regulator and celli tap with that, 2 of the dearest things) and get one later in the year? She agrees, and just says, put $25 a week aside towards it and when you get the money you need, buy it. :icon_cheers:

Well, on the 19th Nov, there will be enough to get 4 kegs off Ross and ill just buy the other bits on the old Credit Card.. :beerbang:

Its a bit of a slow process but compromise is a wonderful thing, plus ive got heaps of bottles to drink till then..

Also, since she spends $10 every 2 days on a pack of cigarettes, give me good backup for my AG gear im slowly buying.. :super:

Hit her up for 4 Celli's while your on a roll!
