Just some minor tweaking.....

1. The purchase of a Chillout Plate Chiller. Not to use as a wort chiller per se. I'll be sticking with my immersion chiller for that because I don't want to stuff around with removing hop bits and stopping hop bits from getting into the cast out wort. I'll be using the plate chiller as a pre-chiller and pumping ice water through the water in-out side and running the tap water through the wort in-out side to bring my tap water down (particularly over summer). This should make for shortened chilling times, less water wasted and easier lager pitching temps over the winter months. Or so I hope. .......

There's my business plan all layed out... Who's going to be the bank and finance me?

Why don't you just pump the ice water straight through your immersion chiller? I think that would be cheaper for you. And it is my belief that using another chiller will use more water.

I hope that helps!!! :beerbang:

I'm in the process of sourcing parts for a new kettle and adding a 3rd keg.
Double or triple batches would be good.

I'm still in the building phase... shopping list as follows;

Kettle
False bottom
Silicone transfer leads
Freezer (already have converter)
Burner (mongolian or NASA, haven't decided)

Looking at $200+ right there...

LOL - some pretty critical pieces of kit yet to get!

Has anyone got any links to those Nasa burners as I need one for myself.

My next purchases as budget permits.

Burner.
New cylinder esky with tap - 40-50 litres.
3 tier brew stand.

Drew, my local HBS is Grain & Grape (Melbs). They have NASAs for $49.95, plus an extra $69.95 for the high pressure regulator and hose... So ~$120 there. Ray's Outdoors do a 'NASA looking' burner (which is probably the same thing), but I'm unsure of prices (it wasn't marked when I checked on the weekend).

Bunnings and Ray's (when having a sale) are good for Eskys and I have put together a few brass ball valves (incl. all the relevant threads, washers, plumbers tape and nuts) for around $16 per ball valve from Bunnings. This doesn't include compression fittings and any copper bits and pieces though.

Have done so for the past 6 years Hando... :) I usually use 30 mins tap water, then recirculate the ice water with a pond pump. I want to try the plate chiller as an experiment to cut down chilling time and water. The whole idea of the plate chiller being that the tap water should come out far lower at the other end. This hopefully will be more beneficial in summer.

Just purchased a Crankandstein CGM-3D 5" S/S Triple Roller Detent Adjustable Gap Grain Mill. Delivery tomorrow, so guess I'll be busy building a hopper & base for the next few days - any diagrams or tips on doing this would be most welcomed - [email protected]

My next brewing equipment project - coolroom.

I'm demolishing an old shed, buildign a new one and half of it will be a 2 stage coolroom. One section will be set at around 5C for the kegs. The other section will be at around 12C as a wine cellar. All running off an old AC I have left over from some renovations.

Cheers

I'd hate to see your electricity bill after 3 months airgead!

3 tier brew stand.

You won't need a 3 tier brew stand to start out in AG - batch sparging means you don't need one, just a pair of arms to tip sparge water into the lauter tun... but hey, if you can afford it and can fit it then go for it!

I'll be insulating the walls with regular R3 batts then lining the whole thing (walls, floor, roof) with 6cm thick high density foam coolroom insulation. Once its down to temp it should hold there without too much work from the AC.

Im going to make a mash paddle out of some hardwood decking with a jigsaw :D
Very technical indeed. Plastic one snapped and my steel ones too short - keep burning my fingers

Cant wait to see your setup dude, as I was reading the thread were u set up your AG earlier today and got me real enthused!

Happy to keep it as is at the moment DC. Noice n simple. My father in law owns a metal fabrication company and all my brother in laws work there. Honestly they could knock something up in a lunch time if I persuaded them with a case of swill. Its tempting for sure.

Electric Stainless HLT, and a pump to pump the hot liquor to the sparge arm, then a stand and a little toolshed to build it all into so I don't have to dismantle the rig and drag it downstairs to the garage every time i finish brewing.

No worries - the brewday as you know is slowly slipping but i'm sure we'll get there, even if it's just us two :p

Finnishing my new keg kettle and nasa burner combo, just need to put together the CFC.

The List of things 'to do' seems to get longer the more time you spend as a brewer.

Well here is the short list at present:

Put together an immersion chiller so I can give the AG setup a test run. I've looked at the 'no chiller' method, but I want a quicker turn around time between grain to brain :chug:
Projects_003.jpg

I have the Monster grain mill motor running, now just have to start on the mills frame and have the rollers turned down.

Once I have a good feel for AG'ing and a bit more experiance under my belt I'll be completing my brew frame and upsizing to the 50L keg set-up. As you can see I'm on my way, there just isn't enough hours in the day to give to brewing. I might have to quit my day job

looks great mate.

Id love to see that mill in action when you get it together.

As you know Tony, your mill is the bench mark :beerbang:

Even if I come close I'll be happy. The motor has an unbelevable amount of touque, so it should work nicely.
I'll keep you all informed.
