I've started a yeast slant registry for people willing to share their yeasty-beasties ...

Some great looking yeast banks there. How has everyone gone with viability? Any autolysis or noticeable mutation?

I'm going to start a yeast bank but was only really thinking of 4-6 yeasts that I use most often, e.g. 1275, 3333, 2000, CBC-1 (bottle conditioning), a Belgian or two.

I was looking at this guide:
http://www.homebrewtalk.com/freezing-yeast.html

Though I'm not sure how isopropyl alcohol would go with a styrofoam esky.

EDIT: And if anyone is wondering... yes it is highly appropriate to revive a thread from 2008. :)

I thought I would thaw the thread and see if it's still viable...

About time my horse ran here.. ~210 vials.. er.. ~25-30 strains

I've got three of these stands (selfmade) full of yeast cultures.

Cheers,

Alex
Well done Alex , are you sub-culturing them onto plates to check for contamination or anything like that? I've just got some sterile tubes
for my future bank. I hope to check for viability, contamination with plates and stains. I'm impressed with everyone on this thread .
This thread is well overdue!
