Hey guys,

Got the second brew mixed up tonight but ive run into a prob i used about 2L of boiling water to dissolve the mixture then filled up to 23L...

The temp at first was 38deg and is now 36deg, ive got the tank sitting in a tub of cold water with added ice ect but the temp wont budge, i know eventually it will but its 10pm now... will it be too late for the yeast to be added in the morning? its taken 2 hours for the temp to go down 2deg!

Cheers

No, wait till morning. She'll be right.

A lot of all grain brewers cool their boiled wort to about 30 and then sit the fermenter in the fridge over night before pitching.

Have fun.

Seems a pretty high temp for just 2 litres of boiling water. Sure your thermometer is ok?
Unless you in Alice Springs or Marble Bar or something your room temp isn't above 40 is it?
Generally, I get an initial temp of around 25-27 which quickly adjusts to around 20 most of the time.
Are you using a strip thermometer and where on your fermenter is it ie about half way down?
Also, did you top up with normal temp tap water?

I'll second the checking of your thermometer. If its the stick on variety.... they can be permanently screwed up by splashing boiling water around inside your fermentor. They get too hot and fritz out.

Otherwise - swirl the fermentor and the water around a bit, that speeds up cooling, and just pitch it when its the right temp. You haven't got a lot of chice and it will most likely be just fine anyway.
