If it's ok to pitch onto a yeast cake slurry without cleaning the fermenter. ..

Is it ok just to tip everything out and immediately repitch fresh yeast onto new wort without scrubbing the fermenter?

Would a quick starsan rinse be beneficial?

If I can safely do it without the clean and soak I'll save a few days, which really helps this time of year...

Why not collect a cup full (a sanitised cup) of slurry, keep it aside and then give the fermenter a decent rinses out under a tap and a quick wipe down and spray with starsan? Then just repitch the cup full of slurry?

You shouldn't need to soak your fermenter for a few days to get it clean, especially if you've literally just emptied it. Most krausen rings and other matter will wipe off pretty easily if you clean it straight after.

To answer your question, it's 'ok' but it's not 'best practice'.

I'm only a new brewer but from what I read everyone takes cleaning and santisation lightly until they get an infection.

I dumped wort onto yeast cake after emptying a fermenter once.......

Once.

Infected, smelled like nail polish remover.

I knew the yeast was ok, but I think the old scummy krausen ring was the culprit.
Go with slcmorro's advice.

Stupid analogy time: I kind of think of the krausen ring as the battle line between yeast and undesirables. If you've done the job right the yeast will win but the DMZ above may still contain the enemy.
Just spraying the old krausen line with starsan is comparable to dipping a dog **** in dettol and saying it's clean.

Hit the fermentor with the hose. A quarter full with hot water and perc. Clean with a gentle cloth. Rinse a couple of times with cold water. Spray or shake some starsan around. Count to twenty. Job done. If that takes a few days you must work for the gubberment!

Cleaning a fermenter straight after use is not hard but DONT' use a scourer or anything else than can scratch the inside (increases risk of infections)
cheers

Absolutely - just the soft side of a sponge will do it. Especially if you clean it immediately. Hot water can be your friend.
