Hi all,

Have just finished working on my strong bitter recipe using Beertools:

5 kg English 2-row Pale
100 g Chocolate Malt
77 g Fuggle (4.5%) - added during boil, boiled 60 min
35 g Styrian Goldings (5.0%) - added during boil, boiled 25 min
12 g Fuggle (4.5%) - added during boil, boiled 15 min
168 g Dark Brown Sugar Molasses - added during boil, boiled 10 min
15 g Fuggle (4.5%) - added during boil, boiled 5 min
7 g Goldings (5.0%) - added during boil, boiled 1 min
15 g Styrian Goldings (5.0%) - dry hopped
15 g Fuggle (4.5%) - dry hopped

Am I being a little too generous with the Molasses sugar? Don't want it to completely take over.

Cheers Floyd

I put 500g of Muscavado sugar into a Tripel, 500g on day 4 of the ferment and 500g on day 5. It gave a really nice depth of flavour to it without too much aniseeedy flavour from the molasses. Might be an option to molasses sugar if you are worried about too much molasses falvour but still want a bit of sugar in there

I would throw 200 to 300g of medium crystal in the mix and drop the molasses back to 100g.

Give that a go and adjust to suit your taste on your next batch.

Better to use not enough than too much and spoil the beer

cheers

Cheer folks. Changed it to 100g.
