hey,

im keen to do another brew with grains ive got left over from my previous brews. Probly have to be a partial. Ive got

1.1kg of export pils
1kg of jwm caramunich
500grm of jwm wheat
500grms og jwm munich
500grms of weyermann carared

50grm of centennial.

Im pretty much flat broke but could afford to by some hops and a kg of LLME.

Im doing 14lt batches.

Any help would be much appriciated!! Im stumped!

Leftover Idea

(50%) 1.1kg of export pils
(22.7%) 500grm of jwm wheat
(22.7%) 500grms og jwm munich
(4.5%) 100grms of weyermann carared

Adjust end volume to give ~1.047 sg Even look at a bit of cane sugar if you need a few more sg points.

20IBU Centennial for 60min
Then divide the rest of your centennial and add equal parts at 10mins, 5mins and flameout.

Download http://www.brewmate.net/, its free and a decent program to formulate recipes in.

Pale Ale - 14L 1.048 to 1.012 = 4.7% abv, mash @ 64c

1.1kg of export pils
500grm of jwm wheat
500grms og jwm munich
50 grms of weyermann carared
50g of jwm caramunich

500 g of Light DME

10 grm of centennial at 60, 15, 5 minutes IBU = 33

Dry hop the rest of the hops (never used Centennial though but it is like cascade)

Oh i see i was beaten to the punch . . .

Rather than starting another thread, I'll resurrect this one.
Brewing up 20L of wort to test out the new system, new mill, new refractometer (time to put the wallet away!)

I'm out of fermenter space, so I'm doing it for a friend.

I will be using bit and bobs I have lying around. Here's a recipe I formulated. Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Side note: I no-chill, but will be doing a mini-boil for the hop additions later than 20mins.

Appreciate your feedback.

Looks OK, an APA type beer? What about some dry hops??

Also you have just over 15% Cara malts, possibly drop the total down to 10% by halving the carapils.

Another thing, what is the reason for a protein rest? I cant see anything in your grain bill that would benefit from a P rest.

Cheers

Hmmmm about the protein rest comment. I just had a read of this thread which shows that my conventional wisdom could be somewhat misguided!!

Is there any reason why that is too much CaraPils?

The reason I have disregarded the dry hop is due to hop supplies. I might toss in 20g or so of homegrown Cascade. It is very similar to the NZ Cascade I will be using in there anyway.

That thread is the exact reason why I'm trying the Protein rest.

Its not that you have too much carapils, i was looking at it in combo with the Crystal and thought u could achieve some extra body and head retention with half that, however i just saw u want to get rid of it so chuck it in. Carapils can be used in higher %'s in light beers to add that body without adding fermentables and thus alcohol.

I thought it looked to be an APA of sorts hence my suggestion of dry hops. However if it was me i would add the 20 min hops at 10 and add 5 min at flameout. That should give you a little more aroma however a slightly lower ibu level.

Cheers
