I've got a bunch of stainless QD's similar to the ones shown in the image below. Most were ordered together from my LHBS, then a few miscellaneous additions have occured since then.

Of the bunch I got from the LHBS, most can be made to work. i.e. some are a tight fit, but there's usually a combo of male/females that will work. With the new female fitting I got recently, I cannot make any of my male barbs fit. I popped out the seals and tried it without the seal, still couldn't get the balls to engage the groove fully (and hence close the sleeve). They're all nominally the same fitting and size, just slightly different brand/supplier.

Anyone got any ideas on how to make these fit?

Edit - have also asked the supplier already, just looking for general advice if people have solved this problem before.

If a bit of keg lube doesn't help I cant think they will work. Hopefully I'm wrong.
Its so annoying finding slight variances of different brands or from different suppliers when they are supposed to be the same thing...

They wont. I have the same problem. They look bloody identical, but the male is slightly longer.
I bought mine from two different suppliers and have to make sure the pigeon pairs stay together.
It works because I bought male/female combos from each supplier. Swap them and nah-ah.

I have the same problem with camlocks, even when i have got them from the same supplier, I have had variances that have made them almost impossible to use.

I have the same problem with QDs purchased just recently.

Is it something to do with the orange o-rings (in the old models) versus black o-rings (in the new models)?

Sometimes it is. We did this at the LHBS with some that weren't fitting, swapped the seals and it worked.

Unfortunately doesn't help for me. In my case, I don't think it's the length of the male barb, I think it's the distance from the groove to the nut on the barb, i.e. I can't push the groove down to the right level to have the balls engage.
