I fly ridiculous amounts and ended up on a 'qantas advisory panel' - meaning they include me in their market surveys. And they are looking at their beer range! On flights currently the only things i can drink from their offerings are asahi or james squire. In the lounge last time they had fat yak pale ale, which made me think someone is thinking about this...

Here's the list in the survey. I have 10 tokens to put beside these brands... But if i spread them amongst the several decent ones here will my votes just disappear because some moron sticks all his tokens beside Corona because he pictures himself as being in the know if he has a lemon in the neck of the bottle?

Amstel
Asahi
Becks
Beez Neez
Belle-vue
Big Helga
Bluetongue
Budweiser
Carlsberg
Carlton
Cascade
Coopers
Corona
Crown Lager
Emu
Fat Yak Pale Ale
Fosters
Grolsch,
Guinness
Hahn
Heineken
Hoegaarden
James Boags
James Squire
Kirin
Leffe
Miller
Peroni
Pure Blonde
Redback
Reschs
Stella Artois
Tiger
Tooheys
VB
XXXX
Other, please specify (& so I specified Little Creatures. Can't list everything, trying to be realistic)

I'm sure my vote won't mean much, but it's good that they're thinking about it seriously.

Leffe? Someone is thinking! Like to see BOONY after an Aust>UK flight necking 48? of those.
Ohhh to drink Leffe on a plane :chug:

Stone & Wood, White Rabbit (alright Little Creatures is there and they are owned by the same co), murrays.

Maybe they could do a "supporting small aussie craft brewers" type thing, rather than whacking bucketloads of yuppie swill and BUL garbage onto their menu. They are limited on what they can put on a plane (watched Heston the other day), so I'd rather them take a more altruistic line to these things.

The write in will likely get swamped so I wouldnt use more then a token on it. But I say pick 2-3 and put 3-4 tokens on each. My choices would be (From the ones I know)
Asahi and James Squire. Decent bottled beers and have a chance of getting tokens from other people.

Should ask if everyone can have 10 anti tokens as well.

Edit : Also I agree with Goomba, maybe suggest a support Aussie craft brewer program. It would look good for them PR wise and you get a constantly changing beer selection.

Coopers Squires and Cascade or Boags would be my diplomatic pick from the list

In the comments section I congratulated them on reconsidering their beer menu. As someone who appreciates fine ales, many people are often dismayed at the offerings at very fine restaurants in Australia - the usual list of bland lagers. I suggested that they reserve a part of their menu for some of the boutique and microbrewery ales produced in Australia, which are amongst the world's finest, such as Fat Yak, Little Creatures, James Squire, Holgate... And that they reserve space for introducing different ales such as Belgians, English real ales or US microbrewery offerings.

I assume there's someone inside qantas advocating for change and the powers-that-be want to test the market first. So i'm not cynical about my words meaning something in a big survey.

Haven't tried white rabbit.

Personally I could take or leave their White Ale, but I know a lot of people like it. Their Dark Ale is a very nice drop though IMHO.

Large corperations really would have no interest in dealing with small breweries, they want mass amounts of beer deliveried on time every time and many/most microbreweries cannot do that so to recommend something like feral hop hog or some murrays beers would be a wasted vote I would think, you want to put your vote to something more realistic like someone else said.
Little Creatures i think would fit the bill for one not on the list.

And White Rabbit is owned by LC, so all good for me there!

You may be right (I may be crazy... oops, OT), though I am noting that since more of the smaller breweries are popping up in bigger bottle-oes (Dan's, 1stC), that I would assume that the distribution lines have been sorted to some extent - at least to the major centres, which is exactly where QANTAS fly from anyway. Maybe anything regularly appears at Dans (LC, WR, S&W, JS, Matilda Bay and the like).

+1 for Belgians. It would be a fantastic flight to sit there and knock back leffe blonde & bruin, or a radeuse kreik for several hours. Did that with cheap scotch to go to sleep on an overnight flight - I regretted it when I got off the plane though.

If I could drink the difference in ticket price in good beer and wine on a QANTAS flight then I would fly with them all the time.

LCPA still stands up against all the new players. They would also have the capacity to supply. I'd plonk 7 tokens on that and 3 on Squires.

have you ever seen bottled beer on a plane???? might want to think about that one and limit your selections to those which have canned beer (leffe etc may have a specialist range for airways etc that we dont typically see in cans.)

I got plastered on boilermakers from the bottomless drinks trolley on Thai going to London, the Singha was in bottles.
