G'day all,
Sorry for the rant, but just a little annoyed at myself and also at the other drivers reaction after this mornings drive to work...
Basically, rear ended the car in-front at the lights, when he hit the brakes to stop for an orange, whilst we could have safely got through with no dramas. Now im not trying to shift the blame, clearly my fault for following to closely and not reacting quick enough to bring myself to a stop without using his rear bumper as a brake.
No one was injured, he's fine, im fine and there's very little damage to either car, scratches and a dent in the bumpers, my front grill is pushed in a little, but thats about it.
However, (this is where the rant starts) his reaction to this little fender bender was a little over the top IMHO. He immediately jumped out the car ran over to my window yelling and screaming calling me every name under the sun and basically telling me he was gonna kill me if I didnt fix it up right there and then...
My first reaction was to ask him if he was ok, and whether there was anyone else in the car with him and whether they were ok. He carry's on like a pork-chop and is abusing the hell outta me. Gonna knock my block off and smash my head in if I wasnt insured and all this...
I can understand the shock of being in a car accident and the dramas it causes and the stress it involves. So I can understand the initial reaction, however 10mins later we have moved over to an adjacent car-park to exchange details and he is still carrying on and abusing the hell outta me.
The point that really got to me, was whilst swapping details he stood over me and purposely tried to physically intimidate me, standing in my personal space and giving it a bit of the old shoulder bump...Quite frankly I didnt know how to handle the guy and basically just changed details and bailed the hell outta there.
But in hindsight, I am thinking I should have taken him up on his offer to punch on and be done with it (he was a 45 yr old fat bugger but had a good couple of inches and kgs on me, would have been a close call but if I got the jump on him I reckon I'd have had him).
I know I've done the right thing by staying level headed about it, but just pissed off by his reaction. Now in hindsight I'm kicking myself:
a - for causing the accident in the first place and
b - for not having had a crack at him...
Either way, fully insured so shouldnt be a big deal just a couple $$$ excess and I'll be on my way.
Just wondering if anyone would have done the same or if theres a few hot heads out there that would gladly have had it on with such a twat...
Also, sorry for ranting...just needed to vent a little as I still feel like a total dick for causing the whole thing...
