So I'm loving this forum and the fabulous advice from the more experienced brewers. But this is a thread for newbies who have become infatuated like me.

I love:
the endless variety of options for brews
that I'll learn more and get better with every brew yet each one (so far) has been brilliant cos I've brewed it and it's cheap and it tastes good
grabbing a bottle from my growing supply and knowing there's plenty more where that came from
being able to share my beer with others
the anticipation associated with brewing each beer (I womder if this wears off after time?!)

There's loads more but hey, join me and tell me if you love it too........

100% agree on the making great beer addiction and welcome. Maybe, and just as well, you have not stumbled on the pizza oven making thread, pizza making thread, making bread thread, kick ass burger thread, growing own hops thread or my killer, the chilli growing thread.

Your life is dooooomed

I've only just bottled my first batch but I'm already loving it. I've already read two books on brewing (including John Palmers How to Brew) plus a heap from this website and find it really interesting.

Love the forums too, I was reading a few others before I found this one but find getting advise about Aussie products and the Australian environment helps more than anything.

I already have plans for my next 3-4 brews, just gotta find some more bottles!

Barney, where in Sydney are you located??

I have a pile of crown seal stubbies (mainly JS or monteiths) sitting here that I don't really need anymore thanks to recently getting kegs, feel free to come grab some.

As for making your own (insert item here), I'm currently making big fat german pretzels for the first time....Will post pics if they work out.

I've been reading non-stop for months :p
I kind of started backwards and got myself a kegerator setup almost a year ago. From there I've been constantly looking at moving to doing my own and I did so about 6 weeks ago! I invited some friends around for a beer tasting, and we got a bit carried away and ran out :p I bottled number 2 and put my 3rd one down last night, and I also keep having ideas for future brews!
My next step is to get a bigger fridge so I can start doing more than one at once.
Loving it :D There is so much to learn, and although I'm now confident in my methods, I know there are always ways to improve!

I womder if this wears off after time?!

No it doesn't wear off. It only gets worse I'm afraid.
As your beer gets better the anticipation gets greater.
"Will this be my best beer yet??"
It's an awesome feeling when you finally get to drink the best beer you've ever made!

Soft Pretzel Recipe - makes one dozen large pretzels:
1 packet active dry bread yeast
1 cup warm water
2 tablespoons soft butter or margarine
2 3/4 cups bread flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
5 teaspoons baking soda (for glazing)
Coarse salt (if desired)
Instructions:
In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup warm water and packet of yeast.
Mix in 1-1/2 cups of flower, the 2 tblsp margarine, 1/2 tsp salt and tblsp sugar. Beat the entire mixture for 3 minutes to mix well.
Slowly mix in the remaining 1-1/4 cups of flour, and knead dough until all of the flour is mixed in and dough loses its stickiness.
Set aside in bowl, and let it rise until dough reaches approximately double its original size.
Divide dough into twelve approximately equal pieces. Using your palms, roll each piece into 18″ lengths about pencil thickness. Loop and twist the lengths into pretzel shapes and place on a greased baking sheet. Allow pretzels to rise again until they approximately double in girth.
Preheat oven to 475 degrees, and ready a boiling solution of 4 cups of water, and the 5 tsp of baking soda in a shallow non-aluminum (note - aluminum may react with baking soda).
With a plastic spatula, carefully lift each pretzel from the sheet and lower it into the boiling baking soda solution for 15-20 seconds. This will glaze the pretzels once you bake them.
Sprinkle the pretzels with coarse salt (if desired, theyre great without salt as well), and bake approximately 7-10 minutes until browned. Serve warm, topped with mustard or cheese, and a pint of your favorite beer.

Can't agree more! On top of this I love:
Visiting the LHBS
Designing killer labels for bottled beers
Fielding requests from family/friends for their own 'special' brew
Trying to work out how to improve your method
Counting down the days until I try an AG

Plus the advice/feedback from members here is second to none!

Funny thing is that I don't drink that much beer and don't really like it that much - more of a Single Malt or Blue Lable type of drinker.
But I am abslutely hooked on home brewing.
Good news for Brother-in-laws and the like as they are all getting homebrew this Xmas.

I plan to get to AG eventually as this appears to be the pinnacle.

I also love being able to make different beers and get away from the same-same taste of the Australian mainstream brands.

Used to do it 20 years ago and just on my 4th brew since returning to home brewing. So many more options available now and the internet and forums makes getting and sharing information so much easier.
