I just found a 500g bag of coffex brand orzo barley which google and wikipedia tell me is used as a caffeine free substitute for coffee by the Italians (the supermarket selling it was Italian). I couldn't find any roasted barley at the LHBS this morning so I thought I'd try using it in an extract/specialty stout. I was originally going to roast some of the crystal I bought but now I won't have to.

Opening the bag to crack it, it has a very deep coffee aroma.

Has anyone else ever used or considered using this?

I don't believe it's malted so my cracking may have been pointless. It's possibly just good as an adjunct.
