I have a pack of Wyeast 1098 that I bought about a year ago and never used. Its been in my fridge all that time, and I am thinking of making an English Brown Ale, which I could use it for. The pack is slightly puffed up, but the interior pocket isnt pieced.

Any thoughts or advice about this one?

Smack it, let it swell up completely, step up in a starter & pitch. I use old packs very very frequently. No issues at all if you use a starter.

Just smack it & see if it fires....It should be fine, but will probably take a few days to puff up.

cheers Ross
