Now to decide what to make with them :)

I have heard all about the Belgian Blond that made an apperance at the homebrew conferance a while ago........ and have been thinking of giving them a try ever since. Seeing a Hibiscus Wheat in the WITG thread and some help from fellow AHB'ers tracking down the flowers now has me at this point.

Now i have a few ideas in my head on what to make with them...... but im interested to see if anyone out there can pop up with an idea outside the square that tickles my fancy.

Pimp that idea people :)

Sorry for not having a good idea - I'd pimping the wheat beer with them, I'd "dry hop" at least some of them in to retain flavour. I did that with some cherries, and it stopped them attenuating out and not adding enough flavour wise.

Hops? I'd whack some Pacific Hallertauer for subtle floral aroma. I love Galaxy, but I think it would push this so out of style it isn't funny.

Maybe make some rye just to add a little colour and earthiness?

Goomba

I just opened the pack and had a chew on some............ man are they tart!

Ok........ i have an idea and i will lay it as a clue...... P, H @ C

Dont bother trying to guess.... i will lay down my idea but im very interested in anything "out there" you can think off that will go with these flowers in a beer.

they are very tart, slightly bitter and acidic with a potpouri kind of taste. Think Rhubarb and lime.

I'd make a roze? (that would be a pink wit...)

(sorry)

Or, make a berlinner weisse, and dry "hop" with them instead of going the syrup. Actually, that's not a bad idea.

10 minute Hibiscus IPA with 500gms thrown in at 10 mins, 250gms cube hopped and 250gms dry hopped.

This idea may* actually end up being completely terrible, but it is out there!

Cheers SJ

*may=probably

An oak-aged imperial amber ale. 1.070, 75 IBU's, american hops, belgian yeast (1388?) fermented low.

In a stout!

I thought of this but half the fun is the red colour....... i have heaps so may give it a go anyway one day

Make Hibiscus cordial :D Its delicious!

The kids will love it..... not :)

Mmmm yes thats not a bad idea at all......... you could almost use them as hops in a Berlinner weisse...... with the very low bitterness they have...... these would be tart enough to do the job and sour it up......mmmmmmmm......... scratch that one down in the posibility list.

Ahhh yes.... and there is the other side of the coil i was thinking......... do you make a simple beer so the Hibiscus stands out or do you make a big beer with lots going on and use it too add colour and complexity without being the main focus of the beer.

something like this would be a "red" ale using the hibiscus for colour and with a good malt backbone and hop character to ballance it all.

Oh man....... keep it coming....... lovin it!

Oh man now your talking :)

Can we get Kate in there instead of the cat though :)

:)

Ok...... my idea is a Pumpkin ale with Hibiscus and Cinemon
