Looks like the UN Int Court of Justice has ruled that the Japanese whaling is not for scientific research and must stop.

There is no appeal allowed and all permits revocked.

Thats it. No more whaling for the Japanese.

I'm pretty skeptical. I reckon they'll just do what Iceland did and leave the international whaling commission, and carry on whaling.

This is absolute ********.

They were just starting to make some real breakthroughs in their research.

There's a few that hang around in the foodcourt in Cranbourne shopping centre Liam, I'm sure nobody would notice if you took a bite ;)

I do love how the very vocal supporters of Sea Shepard have been putting **** on the government the last few years over "doing nothing" yet once this news came out they were quick to pour praise all over Paul Watson because apparently he did all the legal legwork to get the decision passed...

The UN International Courts Of Justice..Ooohhh..

I'm sure the Japs are shitting themselves.

In any case, they will most likely divert the whaling budget into other fields of cutting edge research like powdered rhino horn and dehydrated tiger *****.

You wonder what it was they found during all these years?

Deep fried or simply grilled? Beer batter?

One of the main criticisms against the current government is they promised to send an Australian Customs boat to keep an eye on the Japanese whaling vessels. But you know how pre-election promises go...

I am surprised that we did take it Japan to court. It was a kinda ballsy move even if it amounts to nothing.

The ban appears to apply only to whaling in Antarctic waters. It's not a global ban, although clearly their whaling has never been about "scientific research".
They've killed over 10,000 whales, and never yet published a scientific research paper. Obviously whales are incredibly complex creatures, beyond the understanding of mere mortal scientists, and much more research is necessary. Humankind is the poorer until this research is progressed.

They'll now probably move their "research" into the northern Arctic waters.

Great news, that means I won't now need to keep going outside and vandalising my Mazda as a protest.

I think it's more to do with the fact that some of those whales are facing extinction, meaning there won't be any left if slaughtered and no way to bring them back.

If we had billions and billions of them then there wouldn't be such a noise about it, but we haven't.

Imagine there were only 10 chooks left on the planet, I'm sure there would be a lot of effort to save them and bring the population up to decent numbers.
