Seeing as my original plans fell through, I don't have the hops I was wanting to use. SO, grain bill is:

Recipe Specifications
--------------------------
Batch Size: 40.00 L
Boil Size: 48.52 L
Estimated OG: 1.052 SG
Estimated Color: 11.5 EBC
Estimated IBU: 38.1 IBU
Brewhouse Efficiency: 75.00 %
Boil Time: 60 Minutes

Ingredients:
------------
Amount Item Type % or IBU
8.00 kg Pale Malt, Golden Promise (Thomas Fawcett)Grain 90.91 %
0.40 kg Wheat Malt (Barrett Burston) (3.0 EBC) Grain 4.55 %
0.20 kg Cara-Pils/Dextrine (3.9 EBC) Grain 2.27 %
0.20 kg Caramunich I (Weyermann) (100.5 EBC) Grain 2.27 %

Just can't settle on a hop schedule. I have:
Galaxy (Pellets)
Centennial (Pellets)
Chinook (Pellets) &
Heaps of Cascade (Flowers).

I'm looking to make a hopped up APA style with some Cascade and maybe some Chinook into the hopback at the end.

Any Ideas?

Cheers,
Mitch :D

Lots of nice hops there mate.

maybe try 10ibu of something @ 60 minutes.
mixture of cascade and chinook to 40 ibu @ 10 minutes
dry hop mixture of cascade and chinook @ 2g per l .

sorta like argons lfpa.

Alex (brewer of LCPA) generously gave lots of info in a thread at the end of last year. Seems as of Oct 2010 it had been a couple of years since Chinook had been used.

And for the hop interested - just to clarify - yes, there is variation from year to year with all hops, and every year we have to tweak. The blend for the past couple of years has been pretty similar with a dose of EKG for a portion of the kettle hop (along with Cascade), and Cascade and Galaxy for the hopback (we haven't used Chinook for a couple of years now).

Cheers!

Alex

I reckon you should just aim at your preferred IBU and use any combination of those hops with enough at the end to give you the late hop finish you like. Sounds like an awesome beer to me!

Cheers,
Smudge

Personally I'd look to get some Centennial in there somewhere too. A favourite US hop of mine, I think the flavour lasts a little better than Cascade.
Go the three Cs and save the Galaxy for something else...
I can't offer advice on the best place for Chinook as I haven't used it myself, even though I do like it in the beers I've tasted that had it, but I think those three in combination would work very well...

I'd go Chinook and cascade. Or go solo Galaxy, from what I hear it's not one to mix.
Cheers

It's funny, The original recipe called for all Galaxy, I just don't have enough. So Ill probably go all three 'C' hops, with the Chinook for bittering, and the Centennial & Cascade late and large. I've got some homegrown Cascade and Chinook that i'll pop into the hopback.

1.25 oz Centennial pellets 9.9% @ 60
1 oz Centennial @ 30
1 oz Centennial @ 10
0.25 NZ Cascade Flowers @ 10
1 oz Centennial @ 5
0.5 NZ Cascade Flowers @5
1 oz Centennial @ 0
1 oz NZ Cascade Flowers @0
1 oz Centennial dry-hop from days 7 - 14 in primary
1 oz NZ Cascade flowers dry-hop from days 7 - 14 in primary

Haha, before I toddle off and enter those weights into my unit converter app on my phone... Seriously? Imperial units?
Thanks for the schedule :)

The cascade is flowers you say? So it's NZ cascade then? Hmmm.... If it were me, I'd go an all galaxy IPA....something like 20 IBU and then some late additions to another 10 IBU

That was actually the plan! I just Don't have enough Galaxy to make it happen unfortunately...

Here's what I came up with...

Recipe Specifications
--------------------------
Batch Size: 40.00 L
Boil Size: 45.79 L
Estimated OG: 1.052 SG
Estimated Color: 11.8 EBC
Estimated IBU: 38.4 IBU
Brewhouse Efficiency: 75.00 %
Boil Time: 60 Minutes

Ingredients:
------------
Amount Item Type % or IBU
8.00 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter (5.9 EBC) Grain 90.91 %
0.40 kg Wheat Malt, Ger (3.9 EBC) Grain 4.55 %
0.20 kg Cara-Pils/Dextrine (3.9 EBC) Grain 2.27 %
0.20 kg Caramunich Malt (110.3 EBC) Grain 2.27 %
25.00 gm Chinook [11.40 %] (60 min) Hops 17.1 IBU
60.00 gm Centennial [9.20 %] (10 min) Hops 12.0 IBU
60.00 gm Cascade Whole Cones [8.00 %] (10 min) Hops 9.4 IBU
1.00 items Whirlfloc Tablet (Boil 15.0 min) Misc
2.00 tbsp PH 5.2 Stabilizer (Mash 60.0 min) Misc
1 Pkgs American Ale II (Wyeast Labs #1272) Yeast-Ale

May dry hop with Galaxy? I've no more Centennial left after this one!

Just a little worried about that Bittering Addition being a bit too big IBU wise...
