Howdy Guys,
My intention to register is basically to let you know of a new site I have been working on. So I appologise in advance that my first post is an advertisment - and I have posted this at other forums, so sorry also if you have read it before...

For the past 18 months a friend and I have been working on a website for find items - with the theory that search engines finding a thousand pages for a simple search is beyond what we are looking for. Especially if what you are looking for has a group of people who love it, and are willing to help others enjoy that 'something' as much.

For example beer. I recently started to drink beer, and taste the differences, but am still a novice. Yet if I search google for beer I get 196,000,000 results. A bit too much...

So our site (My Perfect Beer) starts with 1200 Australian Beers, and through a series of questions helps the user to find what their perfect beer would be.

Our only problem is that Beer is not complete. We have Camera and Phone (myperfectcamera.com.au and myperfectphone.com.au) and because all the specifications are in they help you find what your looking for.

So, if you have a second we would love your help... From the 1200 beers, there maybe one that you enjoy, and it would be great if you could register and edit some beer specifications for us. (For example find the beer - 2 Brothers Brewery- Growler - and then 'Edit Beer Info' on the left side.

Of course feel free to have a play. Try and find your perfect beer - it may not be as effective as our other sites...

Again, sorry that my first post is an advertisment. Thanks for taking the time to read...

Cheers
james

Great idea - I for one intend to take a closer look at your site.

I tend to agree with Grant... but anyway, I'm not sure true beer appreciation is prevalent enough in Australia for this site to be very popular.

However I could see this working for wine, with the sheer volumes of "wine wankers" around that claim they can tell Sunnyvale from Penfolds and match it with cheese and meat, etc.

Thought I'd give the site a go. Started with 1283 beers and the site narrowed it down to 1283 perfect beers for me. Who am I to argue, better get started on drinking those perfect beers. :icon_chickcheers:

Well, I checked the site out today - I honestly didn't think it was all that bad (no, I'm not affiliated). I think it's a great idea to introduce the average mega-swill drinker to other beer alternatives available in Australia today.

Some feedback to the developers - it might be a good idea to start out with the option to select a particular beer style instead of jumping in with ABV, colour etc. Are you considering adding international beers that are also available in Australia?

Thanks for checking out the site guys - like it or hate it, any opinion is valid. Thanks for taking the time to check it out.

Thanks ozpowell (Michael) for the thoughts.
First question: The questions are ordered by which one gives you the best breakdown of beers - so it is calculated each question answered to give you the next best question to ask. As more beers are rated, the questions will change (as mentioned the 'Edit Beer Info' will change when the questions are asked.)

Second: Yes definatly - but the easy thing for us, is that you can add them in yourself. Just have to register and add a beer. Then if you have the specs (ie, answer the questions) it will show up in the site.

With all this user involvment (adding a review, adding a beer, or give beer specs) you get points and can then can appear in the top users. So you can head towards being a Beer Guru.
