They'd be better if you took them out of those tiny pots and stuck them in that garden bed Pumpy. Their roots grow horizontally for metres...and I mean lots of metres. But dont do it now! Do it next year.
Cheers

I was root bound once.

Then I found out she might have Herpes and I called it off.

Pumpy, I trimmed the main bine on the Chinook last night as it was a good foot higher than the trellis just swaying in the breeze.

Popped it into some root hormone from the Green Shed then into some seedling mix in a pot. Fingers crossed it takes off!

I am hoping this encourages the next few bines to get cracking now!

How are yours travelling?

Raven

just a hint keep the cutting fairly wet, you have to think of it as a cut flower to only way for it to get water is thru the stem or the leafs. i use those little plastic green house that you can buy, there is about 1 cm of water in the bottom tray and i spray the leafs with water everyday. hope it all goes well

Cheers Matho, I have three pots sitting in a foam broccoli box with a glass lid on top - so I could easily add 1cm of water into the foam tray for the pots to be immersed in.

It also helps to remove all but a few of the leaves.

Kabooby :)

Raven I will try that with the bines

hey pumpy that propagating techneque is for dormant vines, as the vines of the hop plant die back i dont think it would work.

what i do is this

View attachment 33432

use one of these

if you have more that three bines growing from a plant pick one to cut back then cut it like in the photo below

once you have made a cutting put it into some rooting hormone i use the purple gel for semi hardwood, then put it into the punnet
keep the cutting fairly wet, i put the container near a northern facing window spray the cuttings with water every day and in about two to three weeks they will be ready to put into pot and put outside.
