Hi All,

I bought a new auto siphon recently and it won't work unless I block the outlet tube, I can pump as much as I like but it won't suck up and start the siphoning process unless I block the outlet (I just fold the tube back on itself). I want to know if this is normal as all the videos on youtube just show a couple of pumps and away you go???

Cheers

You shouldn't need to block the tube for it to work. Sounds like yours is faulty.

I agree with Bats, mine just take a couple of (unblocked) pumps.

Sounds like it isn't air tight.
Check the seal of the hose onto the racking cane.
And put the rubber sealed end of the cane in some warm water possibly it is out of shape.

Mine is the same mate. It's perfectly normal, unless that end is blocked then it will pull vacuum not only from the beer but also the end of the tube that is in your next vessel. If you just do a couple of quick pumps you'll get her going fine as the liquid will push past the plunger seal pretty quickly.
