WYeast 1084 Irish Ale

i was looking over some of the recipes here and over at some US sites and came up with that. Just not sure if it will be to sweet or not close to style.

any pointers or thoughts would be welcomed.

EDIT:

forgot, hops was thinking northdown or maybe fuggles.. not sure yet. no rush payday is next week so i have lots of time!

Hey bonk,
Have a go at Screwy's Red Ale in the Recipe DB. It's not far off what you've listed, and I can vouch for it coming out fantastic. just adjust for batch size. it's a regular in my fridge.

I'm trying to develop a good red ale too, and am focusing on specialty grains at the moment. My last brew was :

3kg LME (no time to do a full mash, so I cheated)
250g Carared
50g Carafa III

but that was 23 litres.

It turned out a bloody good beer, I love the flavours the Carared and Carafa III contribute, but those quantities just weren't enough to make it RED. It's more a copper colour.

Next time I'll double the quantity of Carared, that should get the colour I want, I just hope it doesn't make it too sweet.

Go with what you've got, it should be good. Be sure to post about what you find, I'm interested.

thanks,

i have been thinking of maybe dropping some of the carared and adding in maybe some munich or melanoidin to add a little more malt flavor

Thats a good recipie...very similar to my red ale..

Enjoy.. :icon_cheers:

Hi Bonk

forgot, hops was thinking northdown or maybe fuggles.. not sure yet. no rush payday is next week so i have lots of time!
I brewed a Irish Red on wednesday and used Fuggles as my bittering hop and Hallertauer for flavour

We usually brew 46l batches and have started doing single batches because I am brewing just about every weekend. Since I have scaled the recipe back to a single batch I can't get it the same. In my past recipes I have only used Ale Malt and Carared, but this time I threw in a bit of Roasted Barley.

Good luck with it, I am sure it will be a great beer...

This was based on Ducatiboys Irish Red and it was sensational. Thanks again Stu!
