Anybody ever tried making an IPA with equal parts liquid light malt and wheat malt?

I all grain brew so to think of those to malts as grain would be like 50% Pilsner and wheat mix which is usually done with a Hefeweizen. In saying that though you could go ahead and make an IPA with it as well.

What hops and yeast are you planning?

I have made an Laguinitas style IPA with 50/50 wheat/pilsner malt, all grain though. Delicious.

If the wheat malt is liquid then it appears it may well be a mix of wheat and pale anyway, so by all means do so, it is not unusual to put some wheat in an IPA anyway.

My first ever brew was a stone and wood Pacific ale xlone. It used 1.5 kg pale and 1.5 wheat LME. Think it was called Earls Pacific ale clone or something. Turned out great. Bump up the IBUs and you'd have a good IPA. Go easy on the galaxy though.

It would be coopers liquid malt and yeah, I believe their wheat is a mix though I don't know the ratio. I was actually going to go for an english hopped IPA, probably challanger and EKG and since I have nottingham in the bucket at the moment I would just roll that over for another batch. I was mostly concerned with having too much wheat malt in there and having something odd come out the other end.

Any reason you are using the wheat? I think it would be fine to use but wy do you want to?

This beer won at the Nationals a few years ago. Has 1.5kg tin of Coopers wheat malt. Have done a few changes since then including dropping the can as it tended to be quite oxidised. I now use 500g of wheat in a 20L batch.

Mostly as i have it, don't have time to go for a drive to pick up more light dry malt and don't want down time on my fermenter.

Nice looking recipe, might have to pick up some simcoe and centrnnial to give it a go. Oh, and grab the malts as well given the only stuff I have left is chocolate malt.

Then use it. It's a pale malt extract with some wheat malt in it. Good to go. Make the next one without wheat malt for a comparison.

I'm trying to remember exactly but I think the Coopers wheat is ~30% wheat
The answers are somewhere here on Ahb

it might also be worth having a look at the hop hog extract recipe thread that is getting very popular reviews. It uses one can of light and one can of wheat but also a bit of light DME. But it might give you a few ideas.
