just like my wife's voice I'm confident I could tune out to any internal racket as well

First thing thread title brought to mind....

"I hear voices in my head
They counsel me
They understand
They talk to me"

This isn't anything new. There has been a strong network of voice hearers since the 80's but it is certainly gaining more tractions at the moment.

I saw this guys speak about his experience http://www.rufusmay.com/

He also said that there was a conference for people that heard voices, I believe in the US but don't quote me on that. They had about 3000 people respond to the conference and only a small percentage of those had ever been diagnosed with a mental illness or had any resulting functional impairment as a result of their voice hearing.

The mind is a truly baffling thing at times, thankfully we can numb it with beer!

A bloke I know well, without putting to finer point on it, suffers from schizophrenia. Unbeknownst to me he decided to ween himself of the clozapine. Cant really blame him, the sides are ******* horrendous.
This turned out to be a bad decision to say the least. His plan was to get off the meds, leave his clusterfuck of a family and get his own place. A suitable share house came along, but he gave it a miss due to, as he straight facedly explained it, the ladys dog barking 'out, out!' at him and the property being haunted..
He's now restarted with the treatment and will hopefully be back on a somewhat even keel soon.
Voices in your head certainly seems nowhere near as desirable as metal bands make it out to be.

Mine just say things like " more hops can't hurt" or "6 points over OG!! I needed another IPA" I really need to stop listening.

One voice tells me to ignore the other voices, 'I am the true voice'.
I don't know.
They all have such good ideas.

I see dead people :drinks:

Correct me if I am wrong, but do you all live in Byron Bay ;)

My voices say- "buy more shiny ****" (not polished turds btw). I embrace the voices.

I used to drive a truck in San Francisco and had an hour gap in my day between drops, so I just sat on a bench and watched people. I soon realized that at least 10% - and probably more like 20% - talk to themselves with their lips mouthing the conversation to some degree. Made me feel a whole lot less crazy!

Some people are just jealous that the voices only speak to me!

Mardoo, I'm one of those "mouthers" or "mumblers". SWMBO keeps telling me to stop talking to myself...

Does that make me any more or any less crazy than anyone else, or is it just a way of "debriefing" your day or other situations that you think you could've handled better?

More like 90% now with hands free....
Actually I think there is an epidemic of mental illness developing since smart phones and social networking etc. That's not a joke.
The odd voices are now crowds!

My experience of the this was based on a pretty ****** up childhood where the only way to survive emotionally was to live life completely between my ears and then relive moments between said ears in order to alter the outcomes so that they turned out a bit better for me. Part of this involved reenacting conversations out loud, a characteristic which can still happen automatically these days if I'm feeling a bit unbalanced or life's a bit out of kilter. I've had the odd look occasionally, it's just a matter of accepting what is, I don't lose a lot of sleep over it..

Many people claim they hear the voice of God.

Nothing strange about that?

I was at the pub last night, and the voices kept saying " Another beer Stu...."
