Or to sound really Australian. It's great to be able to argue about two flies crawling up a wall. :icon_drunk:

]I pray that the powers that be are carefull who they select to come into this great nation, hate to see it end up like the U.K. with home grown terrorism etc

It will be much better with that bastard Howard gone..............who knows, maybe now I'll have to scrape the dollars together to sit the 'can I be an aussie' test..... (hold on....who was the 3rd prime minister again? how many runs did the Don score between 10.34 am and 11.16 am on the 12th of july 19............geez some of these questions are hard  )

It's a great country. A bit warm sometimes, but it's great all the same :D (Even when you're not officially an Aussie quite yet)

(OT - but has anyone else read some of the questions? I wonder if many Natural Australians know the answers to some of them?? Some of them are a little obscure..I wouldn't blame anyone for not knowing the answers let alone poor new immigrants...cause I wouldn't have a clue!!

..ie:

When did Caroline Chisholm land in Australia?
When did a new popular Australian literature emerge?
Which is the birth place of Sir Frank Macfarlane Burnet?
Who was the father of Nancy Bird Walton?

Just if anyone had any doubt that Australia isn't the best country on earth, here is the quality of life rankings for 2007, not sure how it's calculated but the data is supposed to be pretty comprehensive. France may have snuck in above us, but who wants to be french? ;) The strong economy and ease of opening a business were two factors, among others, mentioned in the article for our high QOL. No rants, but it'll be interesting to see whether this will be maintained with labor in now...

I love my days off when I can head down the beach on a sunny day. And I live an hour from the coast! Might have talked myself into Cronulla just now.

Oh and a juicy rack of lamb on a Sunday arvo. Or a thick cut of steak perfectly cooked as I settle down to Friday night footy with a homebrew.

Lying in the pool reading a book for 3 hours after work.

Voting.

Listening to Kerry O'Keeffe on the ABC.

The Chaser being as piss funny as they are, and the fact they can exist on telly at all.

And I must admit, the view on a hot Summer day is pretty impressive.

Incider..

You forgot to mention that you are free to dress as you please

I love this country. The people, the culture, the antics, the whole box and dice. Everywhere I have travelled, people love Australians. They love our larrikin nature, our ingenuity and our spirit to stand up and say 'Whoa! Back the truck up' when something isn't dinky di. I love taking my kids to the cricket and the footy, to the beach or on that other great Aussie adventure, camping.

We take the piss like no other country and we laugh it off just the same, we will stand and argue like a pack of bastards for a day but unite to fight for a common goal at the drop of a hat, only to return to arguing like a pack of bastards as soon as it is achieved. We aren't scared of the 'big jobs' and we'll burn just about anything on the barby, except for European Carp.

The mateship, the freedom, the culture and...

Ahhhh... How's the serenity?

Rook, you're still to get over the delirium of the Cats premiership victory, so I'll forgive you the ******** about VB.

When I landed 22 years ago I felt immediately at HOME!
never regretted taking out citizenship, it was the natural thing to do and everyday I celebrate my fellow ozzies,I meet them everywhere, give a hand when people need it, share myself and often am touched by the natural generousity of heart and goodness that is stil present in many people here.

its great to be an ozzie and am proud of it!!!

cheers amita

I have been here about 5 years. ...To cut a long story very very short I met a Hobartian in Edinburgh, got married and she got homesick so I moved here.
I like it. I love burning / cooking stuff on the barbie. I have my own chainsaw and a 19 year old ute. Built my own extension on my house and have a dog called Sam.

Seems there is conflicting reports (see earlier post). According to the UN we're third in the news today..

These indexes are highly controversial- how do you really judge a country on that vast a basis, let alone put them in a list?

When did Caroline Chisholm land in Australia?
1838. She was good to homeless women in early Sydney, keeping them out of brothels. The local men hated her.

When did a new popular Australian literature emerge?
Fair dinkum - who wrote this crap question ? New popular Australian literature emerges everyday we live. Just last week in the outer suburbs of Sydney two men printed a political flyer about the racist Labor Party that probably tipped John Howard
out of his seat in Bennelong. Now they are very popular !

Which is the birth place of Sir Frank Macfarlane Burnet?
Tralalgon in Victoria. I knew that cos he was a biologist and the doctors say I am a biological abomination. That's good, isn't it ...?

Who was the father of Nancy Bird Walton?
Trick question, it was Mr Bird. Nancy was Australia's first recognised commercial aviatrix. I have no idea why her father is supposed to be famous .. must be missing something. Walton is her husband's surname.

Class dismissed.
