home grown hops?

I have grown chinook hops the last 2 years. Last year they didn't seem to have much smell or bitterness.(first year)
This year however they went beserk and are much more pungent has anyone any idea of the Alfa acids or any idea of a good starting point?
I picked up the rhiozomes of a mmber here in vic so hopefully some other brewers have a similur strain as me.
the cones were mature and have just been air dried.

Without proper testing you'll never really be able to do much more than guesstimate. I'd prefer to use a hop of known IBU's for bittering and use the homegrown for flavour and aroma additions. Doesn't mean you can't experiment. If you're anything like me you'll err on the side of bitter.

Cheers mate I got loads of them two 30 lt fermenters full so ipa I say, just going to go for it and be a hop pig.

The way I've been thinking of working it out, which I haven't tried yet, is to get some hops of, say, 4, 8, and 12% alpha. Then make hop teas using the same process and weight for all of them. Also make a tea using an equivalent weight of yours, adjusting for wet weight, and estimate where in the spectrum they fall. That's the best I've come up with yet.

I like this, as long as you make it enough to be say 10ibu difference at least so that you can physically tell them apart
