Morning all,
I'm pretty much over the 45 minute wait to get to a boil on our electric hotplate ;) What's the best option for a burner? I've looked at some of the burners on beerbelly and might end up going with one of them, but just wondering if there is a slightly cheaper option that might do the job for a while. I'm only set up to do half batches at the moment so might not need such a massive flamethrower. Is there something I might find at a camping or hardware or other store which will run ok off a standard regulator and boil 12-15L with any speed?

A 3 ring burner may be a good option for you, just doing small batches. Fill in your location and someone local may be able to point you in the right direction.

Cost of a 3 ring and then buy a proper burner later. So in effect you're paying more....why ?
I use a NASA, big burner, and with the adjustable reg I can toast marshmallows on it if I want, or make my brew jump out of the pot (~33L preboil). Spend the extra $$ up front, I'm sure the BeerBelly burners turn down real nice as well, and save yourself the cost of a 3 burner in the long run.

I picked up a Beerbelly spiral burner about 6 months ago and haven't looked back. Comes with a nice stand and does the job well.

I can get 45 litres to the boil on a 25 deg day in approx 30-40 mins. This is w/ low gas (ie. low noise) with the HP reg.

Something to keep in mind is if you do go into full or double batches, to be prepared with the burner first. I used a wok burner that came w/ the outdoor bbq (and reg) to begin with and it couldn't boil 45 litres...

Tim,

ever thought about DIY? In on of our German Forums a mate built his own burner. Following this 'concept' you can easy have a custom sized burner... but if you prefer 'safety first', you'd better don't so this! ;)

Well... German language, but have a look at the pictures:

Klick me

The original idea was reusing the burner of a gas heating...

Cheers,

Alex

Tim,

I have just received a spiral burner and adjustabe reg from beerbelly and have taken 1 hour out of my brew day.
It is very adjustable can be used low or high or anywhere in betwen.
If you can afford it go with the bigger rather than buying small and then having to upgrade later.

Regards

Graeme
