....Australia, Im coming

25. of Jan. Ill arrive in Perth.
Some hints for places of interest are highly appreciated, I mean beer related places of course, others Ive more time to find ;)
Ill stay a couple of days in Perth before doing a roundtrip, get adapted to the weather, the beer and everything else.

So, if you could give me some hints where to get a nice beer, microbreweries preferred, would be a great gesture.

Cheers mates :icon_cheers:

Potters Brewery in the hunter valley (2 hrs drive north of sydney) is a sure bet.

Or my place if you dont want to pay for beer. Im 1/2 hr drive from the micro Your quite welcome for a beer, just let me know if your passing through.

Cheers

thanks a lot Tony, but I meant Perth only for the first time.

well doing a round trip, but have no plan yet where and when to be at a certain place.

Cheers :beerbang:

Zwickel, you are welcome to come to my place on the 26th of Jan for Australia Day. I'm putting on some food and beers for members of the local brew club. Will probably be brewing on the day too, possibly a pseudo lambic.

Drop me a message if you're interested.

As for tips on local breweries & bars, try the following:

Clancy's Fish Pub (Fremantle) - Usually serves a few different microbrewed beers
Little Creatures (Fremantle)
Sail & Anchor (Fremantle)
The Royal (East Perth) - Serves beers from Colonial (Margaret River region)

If you're willing to venture a little further out, there are plenty of microbreweries in the Swan Valley, such as Mash Brewing, Duckstein, Feral and Elmar's. There is also a brewery (Indian Ocean Brewing) in Mindarie, which is in the northern suburbs. I haven't been there but have heard good things.

When in the Sunshine Coast Zwickel you are welcome the visit my bar,you better stay the night as well.
I am sure some of the brewers would come to meet you

Zwickel, obviously you'll have to catch up with all the WA brewers while you're over here. Bunch of microbreweries out in the Swan Valley ~45 mins to the east of Perth. More info can be found here http://www.microbrewing.com.au/default.asp?ID=776105
They used to have it caterogised by state, but not anymore that I could find.

There's also a bunch in the lower south west, Margeret River and the such, but that's ~3-4hrs South of Perth so a bit more of a drive.

Fremantle is a great place for commercial pubs and brewpubs. They've got the Sail'n'Anchor, Little Creatures, Mad Monk brewing and places like Clancy's Fish Pub generally have a good selection of the local microbreweries.

Hope that helps get you started.

Edit: I type waaaay too slow

My place... ;)

But I understand Margaret River is to be on your itinerary. A couple of good breweries there. Colonial, Bootleg...

If you go to the Swan Valley (near Perth) you will find a couple of your countrymen have set up brewpubs...Elmar's In The Valley and Duckstein (soon to be opened in Margaret River as well). Some others there too, on the lists in the above posts.

When in Perth take the train to Fremantle and try Little Creatures, and maybe the Sail and Anchor and the new Mad Monk. All close to each other.

WJ

thanks a lot, mates, for the warm welcome.

Im in a very close contact via Skype to my special mate Whistlingjack (a visit to him in Albany is an obligation).
Kook, thats very kind of you to offer meeting you and other homebrewers at your place, that sounds great.

Hopefully WJ may also join the meeting on Australien day, that would be a great get-together.

okey-dokey, because of my poor english, WJ will contact you and do further negotiations.

Cheers :beerbang:

Why are all the good get togethers against my bloody work roster.Im really starting to hate Fifo rosters.

Not happy again

Cant be as bad as Tony or Jazman's typo's....

hahahaha....Ive noticed that Tonys keyboard doesnt work well, some letters are missing ;)

If you get up to the Nth Coast of NSW, I can meet you at The Pub With No Beer Brewery..

wow Ducatiboy, thanks a lot for the link, that looks really great. A very unique place to be.
So far we dont have any concrete plan yet where to go whilst our stay for 6 weeks in Australia.

As soon as WJ let me free in Albany ;) Im gonna post my further itinarary.

Thanks again mate :icon_cheers:

edit: P.S. a bloody funny and nice Fuller's Bush Bulletin one can read on the site, love it

so obviously I should be there on 10. of Feb.
Id love this:

Sunday 10 Feb
Sugar Cane Collins - a big soulful voice that is deep and passionate, a spell binding solo blues performer....

Inspired by the delta blues of Charley Patton, the ragtime guitar of Blind Blake and the songster traditions of Leadbelly, his songs are deep and vivid and like the best of the early acoustic bluesmen, he is an exceptional storyteller. When Sugarcane sings the blues you see the fervour in his face, the light in his eyes, the veins in his neck. A formidable presence on stage, his shows are equal parts aggression and grace. Don't miss Sugarcane Collins and his own unique brand of blues when he appears at the Pub With No Beer on Sunday 10th February at 1pm.

ohhhh man.....I really should be there

Zwickel, will you be motorhoming it again? Do you plan visiting QLD to visit your rellies?

Screwy

Screwy, this time well not gonna go north Queensland, too often weve been there. Im not yet sure if well find time to visit our rellies in Mackay, maybe not. What we wanna do, if the time allows us: Perth-Margaret River-Albany-Esperance-Eucla-Ceduna-Port Lincoln-Adalaide-East Coast. Doing by car and Motel.

So the places to visit are depending on the remaining time we have.
The experience Ive made in Australia is, everything comes different than youve planned ;)

But there are a few places in Queensland Id really like to go. So surely well be in Qld for a couple of days.
One of that places could be the Pub with no beer and up the coast to Brissie (Ross place).

As soon as I know more precise where to be, I`ll let you know via PM, hopefully there will not be any cyclone this year that destroyes our plannings.

btw. last holiday Ive droven 12800km within 6 weeks, even weve been stopped in Townsville due to a cyclone and had a one week stay with our rellies, thats no problem at all, so with a good car, Australia is not very large

Cheers

I feel another Fremantle day out coming on.

Me too!

Zwickel, while you're in Adelaide do check out Grumpy's and the Lobethal Bierhaus in the hills, then get down to Goolwa and visit the Steam Exchange. All worth visiting. Definitely drop into Little Creatures while you're in Perth, if there's no grand Fremantle day out on the cards then we can at least look at shiny stainless and talk beer.

Kai

Kai, definitely I will follow kooks recommendations:

Clancy's Fish Pub (Fremantle) - Usually serves a few different microbrewed beers
Little Creatures (Fremantle)
Sail & Anchor (Fremantle)
The Royal (East Perth) - Serves beers from Colonial (Margaret River region)

anyway, the combination Fish and Beer is fascinating ;) must follow it

Ill not stay in Adelaide because last year weve been there, we also had a visit to Grumpys.
So Adelaid will be only a short stop on our way east.

Cheers mate :icon_cheers:

No worries, kook's recommendations are worth following. Let's see if you can run into a few sandgropers while you're over.
