Hi Guys,

Has anyone had experience in reassembling the spear etc back into an 'A' type commercial keg ? Have been successful in getting the spear out so that I can give the inside of the keg a good clean but having some difficulty getting the spear back in due to the locking lugs. Is there a special tool that you have to use to get it back together ?

I have seen that some people cut off the lugs so that the whole assembly (spear and collar) screws in easily, is this the only way to get it back in ?

Without a special tool - Yes, cutting the tag off is about the only to do it.
Just be careful not to cut too much off, if you do you the spear wont sit straight and wont get a good seal.
Remove the big square section seal from the valve body, reassemble the spear, trim the tag off with an angle grinder or hacksaw, smooth the cut tag with grinder or file, put the square seal back on and screw back into the keg.
