Bought a fridge on eBay for $50
Worked when I got it home
Tripped safety switch after running for few hours
Then tripped safety switch again when plugged in 2nd time
When plugged in 3rd time internal light came but compressor wouldn't kick in
Wiring disassembled - ? Compressor start relay is knackered along with ? Thermal over load

Old fridge , parts not made anymore

Westinghouse RJ212T-L

Anyone have any suggestions ??

Give a local fridge mechanic a call, many of the parts are interchangeable.
Cant imagine it being to much of an ordeal.

That was possibly a good old fridge, it really didn't want to be moved. Go buy another, or get one for free.

If it was a reasonably modern fridge with automatic Defrost then I would put a bit of money on the fact that the defrost element is buggered.
I have two Westinghouse fridges, different models but both which were marked as automatic defrost / frost free and the defrost element went in both of them. They work fine for a while until the defrost cycle kicks in and then the safety switch gets tripped - They are easy to swap out but of course it should be done by someone licensed. You can find them on Ebay and the ones I have swapped out have lasted for more than 6 years on one fridge and 4 on the other fridge.

I suspect the constant temperature change from freezing to heating causes them to crack and that is when the water gets in and trips the safety switch.

Cheers

Agree with roller. I had a similar issue with a frostfree fridge tripping the safety switch on one house circuit only. I suspect it was always when the defrost element kicked in as you could turn the timer knob near the compressor and it would run fine for another 24hrs or so. If its tripping the safety switch but not the circuit breaker its likely earth leakage not an overloaded circuit or so I'm led to believe (no expert). If you could bypass the element (if this is the problem) it would still make a good ferment chamber if you can't source parts. By a licensed repairer of course.
