Fitting Types For Lpg

Hi Everyone,

Searched the forums and can't seem to find an answer to this one anywhere.
Currently in the process of building my brewery.
Long and slow process..
However..
Wondering how everyone connects there burners.
I have 2 x 10 jet mongolians which I plan on connecting from one tank.
My plan was to use 1x regulator to a t joint and then out to the burners.
However a few questions occured to me.

I don't really want to run rubber/plastic gas line to the actual burner as that just doesn't seem safe.
Melting and so forth.

My first thought was to use copper for that part.
But are compression fittings ok? Or soldered fittings?
Or do I need to use flare joins?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm so am I right that after reading around I need flare fittings?
Was hoping not to have to buy a flare tool to do 3 or 4 joins..
Flare joins don't look like they'd have a big enough opening for the rest of the plumbing though correct?

Any information would be great.

I use rubber LPG hose on my 3 ring burner, and the hose doesn't get all that warm
but if you're really worried, BCF have lpg hose with a braided stainless sheath

I had thought of the stainless braided hose option as well.
Expensive little blighters those..
Also I've noticed somewhat difficult to find with the correct ends on.

I've also just discovered that the safety shutoff valve model that I'm planning on getting has flared fittings for the pilot.
So I may have to get/borrow a flare tool anyway.

Bunnings warehouse stock quite a selection of braided gas hoses and are well priced / are relatively cheap.

Bunnings sell 15mm galv pipe sections with a thread on with end. 15mm = 1/2BSP. Get a section for each burner at least 250mm long and screw it into the head using thread tape, this will get the main plumbing away from the burner head. Then throw in a 1/2" ball valve to allow you to shut it off. From there adapt them down to suit the lpg hose, and fit your T etc. Haven't seen the braided hose at Bunnings, but Auscrown have decent prices for braided hose and also the regs (also the mong burners)


This should give you an idea (without plumbing for a T)

Nice thought..
Hadn't considered galvanised pipe.
Had any trouble with the galvanising flaking and blocking burners like it's been reported?
Although i doubt that they have it in 1/4" for the pilot..

Never had an issue with the galv. I didn't run the pilot so hadn't looked at it. I don't think I've seen 1/4 threaded pipe, but I would have a chat to your local plumbing mob, even in copper it should be ok.
