so i've bought some wyeast 4766 for my next batch of cider, but i've only ever used dry packet yeast before. I've looked around the forums on what people do when using this type of yeast for beer, but is the process different for cider?

ie. can i just smack it and add it to the fermenter?

Yes.

All wyeast packs (not just cider) should be smacked and left for around 1/2 day per month from manufacture date IF you want to check if the pack is viable.

Alternatively you can trust in Wyeast and not worry about smacking it.

If, like me, you don't add any type of sulphite to the brew or your juice is particularly high gravity, you might need to look at making a starter.

If it's a simple base juice and this is your first time using liquid yeast then I'd just smack it and add it in when it's swelled. Don't over complicate at the start.

thanks mate, i was getting a bit worried there for a while. some of the techniques people use are really convoluted...
