Seriously though, nobody will give a crap if you did something silly - we just want to know what you did to get such a low FG - you know, so we can learn and understand! That's the whole point of this site isn't it?

Glad it turned out well for you anyway

ok ok, i admit it  :D

p.s. hey siborg, how'd you go with yours?
Hey, was that based on manticles recipe? Mine isn't anywhere near as dark as that. It still hasn't carbed up 100%, its only just under 2 weeks in the bottle, but it hasn't stopped me from drinking it. Mine is more malty and sweet, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the tettnang hops are definitly noticable in the flavour and aroma. There is a slight bitterness, but not having much to compare to, its pretty decent. Like I said, I've been drinking it lightly carbed/flat and it is still the best beer I have made to date.

I'm gonna have a glass or two in a little while... I'll post a pic when I do so you can see how much lighter mine is.

What was your grain bill? And what did you add to make the FG so low? For a second there, when I first read the post and saw the pic I thought you'd put your hydrometer in upside down! But I refrained from posting that due to the fact that 1) I know you'd be smarter than that and 2) I wasn't sure if that would cause a reading of 1.000, which logically it wouldn't, but part of me wants to go and do it with some water now, just to see.... No, no-one would put it in upside down..... would they?

Anyways, its beer O'Clock!

hi siborg,

i put in a bit of choc malt instead of biscuit as lhbs didnt have any so could be a bit darker (dunno havnt used biscuit before). other than that pretty much manticles partial guide (except hops are a different). photo is taken on phone so may not be true representation of colour (it looks like an amber ale in real life). it was a dry enzyme a found floating around, that got it so low, taste is pretty good but it is dry. having said that i'm on my 7th schooner and the only thing stopping me from too many more is an early rise for work tomorrow. cant wait till the next partial, really cant wait till my first ag.

cheers

I'm doing my first AG tomorrow!!! Can't wait!

Here's a pic of mine. Note the lack of head, but you can see (and I can taste) some carbonation now. Come to think of it, its not that much lighter than yours. I used aromatic malt instead of biscuit cause the shop didn't have any. The chocolate would have done it for darkness. Does the chocolate taste come through much?

cant really overly taste the choc flav, i'd love to try biscuit cos it sounds TASTY. the hop bitterness/flavour/aroma has really grabbed me. it really reminds of craft brews (which is what i have been chasing) but its a mile away from were i've been with heavy malty kits and fwk's. i LOVE it, cant wait to do more.
