Does someone know they size of the thread required for the standard fermenter tap ? Is it 1/2" BSP ?
I'm needing to tap a thread for the standard tap, so will need to get the necessary tap/die set. On that does someone know of a good online retailer to get specific sizes without having to buy a complete set ? I checked Kennards hire and they don't appear to hire them.

TIA,

3/4"BSP

Pumpy :)

If you are cutting into SS you may need a

'Starter tap' then an 'Intemediate tap' then a 'Finishing tap'

If you are cutting into plastic you may get away with just a starter .

some taps cut parrallel sides some cut tapered sides

Make sure you drill the correct size hole for the tap 'Suttons' will have a chart on thier website for the correct hole to drill for a certain size tap .

Thanks Pumpy,

Will be cutting into plastic.
Had planned on doing a pilot hole (large-ish) then tapping out to the correct size (which sounds like 3/4" BSP).

Do you know of a good cheap source of such a size Pumpy ?

Cedray off Silverwater road , think the turning after the overpass

I may have one at work you can use but I am on Annual leave at the moment , they usually cost about ten bucks ( I think )

I am getting stuck into Doc's Choc Oatmeal Porter big time as I am on Holiday :)

Thanks Pumpy. Found them on Google Maps. They don't have a website
Hope you pricing is close, as this is overkill for a couple of holes.

Off the top of my head Id expect a chrome 3/4 bspf tap to be ~ 20bux cost so near double that retail.

I got a duratech tap and die set from bunnings, iirc it was about 20 bucks and im pretty sure it came with 3/4bsp. They all intermediate taps - if your tapping straight through thats all you'll need. I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure you only need a 1st (or starter or lead) if your tapping into something hard, and I think u only need a bottom if your tapping a thread into something solid (ie not coming out the other side) to get the thread right to the bottom of a hole. someone correct me if i'm wrong.
