Hey guys, i am looking to expand my homebrew setup with a second fermenter. i got the new coopers diy kit for chrissie and ive been looking on ebay for another, but all i can find are the older micro brew kits.

in your opinion which is better? the diy or micro fermenter? i dunno whether to just buy another diy kit brand new, or save some money and get a used micro kit?

cheers

I use Bunnings buckets (25l) with cling wrap. I think they were $15

just go to bunnings and buy a 25l drum and a tap $12 (when i got my second) then buy the airlock and rubber gromet from k-mart for $3.. there you go $15 and you have a second fermenter :icon_drunk:

edit: beaten by teritorybrew

I personally like the Coopers DIY kit. Although a little more expensive, you are not mucking around with other parts like air locks, screw lids and seals etc. and you also have less to wash/sanitize which I think is a good thing because it is less chance of infection due to not as many parts. I have one and my 2nd brewer will be another even if I have to pay for the full kit. I can use everything in the kit and for the few dollars extra really doesn't worry me.

Having said that, i know a lot of people who are happy with their standard type fermenter and they claim they won't change, but it is also hard to change people when they are comfortable with what they know. Therefore, I am only speaking from my personal opinion and there maybe factors which I do not know about.

I love my Coopers fermenter. If it was a girl I'd probably name her Betsy

I haven't seen the new coopers fermenter but for about $20 I'd be going to bunnings for a 2nd fermenter.

the only issue with the bunnings barrel / drum is it doesn't have the plastic recycling number on it, so who knows what grade plastic it is

Where abouts in the world are you mate? I'm in Melbourne and I buy my fermenters from here Cheap fermenters

I use 20l Willow jerry cans. Easy to carry, can ferment 3 at a time in the fridge, no wanking around with airlocks or cling wrap, just a half turn with the cap and you're done.

Easy to clean - soak in napisan, and shake. I'll never go back to the barrel fermenters.
