I picked up this bar fridge for my fermenter - it's a little oversized for a bar fridge and fits my fermenter OK but I'd still like to have the freezer removed if possible.

Judging by the pictures, can anyone tell me if this type of fridge can have the freezer removed?

Do you think the freezer part could be folded down to give more height?

I saw a youtube video where this guy bent the hell out of his freezer compartment until it was pretty much lining the side. You'd need to be brave because if it snaps while bending it's all over. The freezer compartment in those fridges is the cooler.

Logman..yes its suitable..bradbrew you would have to be careful..if you look they only are a sliding bracket..

Ive got 2 fermenting fridges pretty much the same.
Because the freezer does all the cooling for the fridge, you cant remove it, but you can bend it down. Just take it nice and slow and all will be sweet.

Thanks. It was more for a double brew that I thought of taking it out, but I don't have a double fermenter at this point so no harm done.

As long as it takes the Fridgemate I'm happy :D

It has a drip tray under the freezer - are they not needed running a Fridgemate?

It wouldn't ever frost up at fermenting temps would it?

i've got exactly the same fridge for my fermenting

i'd wait til you get your double batch fermenter and see if it fits. these fridges are quite tall, you may find even a large fermenter will fit.

i've left my drip tray in but run a drain hose from it to catch any of the condensation that forms

good luck

I think the standard double brew fermenter might be too big - but I would only need enough for two 19 L kegs - maybe some kind of oversized cube might get in there....

Kind of off topic but if you wanted to turn it into a fridge for keg or for multiple fermentors you could add an insulated plywood box to it to give yourself more room with it. I got a fridge of a similar design and have wanted to give it a go myself but mine fits a keg nicely and will hold a feremntor so I haven't yet been bothered. The cool thing about the design is that if you use silicon or sikaflex to secure the box to the fridge it can be easily removed and then be used as a normal fridge again and you can also add a tap to the box easily enough.

a pic speaks a thousand words so yeah here's one I did in paint.
