Hi All,

I'm looking at using (sorry the Boss wants) sandstone tiles as a floor covering in part of the house but am having difficulty finding any reliable info about how to lay them. Specifically what to use as adheasive and grout. Also a sealer after they are laid and whether a sealer is required on the concrete before laying.

Any info or advice would be appreciated.

Hi Adam
Sand stone is a great surface however it can be porous. If it is going to be in a high traffic area sealing it is very important.
Adhesive depends on what type of surface you are gluing it to. If it is timber you will need to use a rubber based adhesive (ASA Asaflex) but make sure the timber floor is sound and not rotten.
If it is a concrete slab you will need a cement based adhesive.(ASA Conflex ) or you can use Asaflex (this is the best type you can use on any surface)
ASA Sanded Tile Grout for the grouting. Don't seal the concrete prior to laying the sandstone. I use to run a tile shop and these are the products that I sold but there are many similar. Make sure you get good quality adhiseve and grout. It could mean the difference between lasting 5 years or a lifetime!!
If there is anything else I can help you with just ask!
Good luck

Thanks BS,

We are going this weekend to view some sandstone tiles, now I am better equiped to deal with dodgy sales men!

If I need more advice / help I'll ask for sure.

I also have a little bit of tiling coming up. Would that Asaflex stuff be the best choice for tiling under a dishwasher over a concrete slab?

I'm not sure what the previous owner used on the rest of the kitchen but there are a few cracked tiles around the place I'd like to replace sometime too.
