G'day,

I've been considering one of the tomahawk keggerators on ebay and am wondering if anyone has one and what they're like? Any info would be great.

Thanks

I have one, well not the TomaHawk one but exactly the same without a flow-restricted tap. They are good (I got mine for 400$), but sold the CUB coupler on eBay for 50 bucks and threw out most other bits and pieces. Mine came with an aus standards dual guage reg, but i'm having trouble fitting two 19L cornies inside. Need to somehow get the gas line through the other side and out the back under the drip-tray. It's a real pain in the ass.

I've posted a few more photos in the Gear section.

for some reason it's really hard to take a photo front-on as the fridge is stainless/mirror like and it screws up the entire image.

Hi guys,

I am a newbie and am building my home bar. Not yet on the brewing stage, just want to have a tap on the living room and some fancy spirit bottles and neon on the wall... :)

Wondering if anyone else can give more advice in regards to the tomahawk... I am really keen to buy it. The last one I saw went for $610... cheap but above what I wanted to pay (saw people paying 400+ dollars for it). Great value though... if I understood correctly it comes with all the hoses, regulators, co2 bottle and taps one might need to buy.

All I would need is to find a way to buy a full commercial keg with my favorite beer, but that's another story... :)

Anyone would have more feedback about the unit?

cheers!

Dan

to use corny kegs you're going to have to rip all the hoses, connections and stuff out and throw it. I sold my KEG Coupler for 50 bucks that came with it making my final purchase only $350 for the lot. But I then had to buy c02 gas (299), two kegs (180), all connections and bits and pieces (about 100), I find that I'm going to have to drill through the side to run my gas line as the fridge isn't big enough to fit two bottles and the gas.

There's much better flat door models going for around the same price as these ones now, I'd probably go a flat panel again if I had the chance but if you can pick one up for $300-450 I'd buy one, anymore and I doubt it though. I got mine from jlkcomputers.

Hi Dan,

After more research I'm going to buy one of the kegmate-like ones on ebay instead of the tomahawk. Fits another keg and all in all looks like a better quality unit.

after buying a tomahawk-style ones (about three sellers are selling the same fridge, different names) I'd definitely go for the kegmate-like flat-door ones on eBay. Basically going for around 600 anyway, but fits three kegs and looks much better. At least I'll hold onto this one, my first adventure into kegging for at least a year before I update.

May be a little off topic, but why don't people consider a cheaper alternative such as the small chest freezers people such as myself use? For around $300 you could pick up something new or near new and still have room for extra bottle or to chill glasses. For a tad more you could most likely pick up some sort of single font set up. I know its not the same but it is an alternative and maybe more efficient.

New chestie - $300

Font - $100 (absolute min)

Reg - $100

Total: $500

Ebay kegmate delivered minus money you get after selling CUB couplers; about $520

My 2 cents

I got something similar to the ebay ones but from an enthusiast out west in Sydney. He regularly advertises in the Trading Post. The systems he puts together are second hand fridges (big and small) plus a couple of cornies and the associated bits, all you need to get is a source of CO2.

I'm pretty happy with mine, gave it a lick of paint and then upgraded to twin taps about 9 months after I got it. For me it was money well spent. Plus I got to have a beer and a chat with an obviously enthusiastic home brewer. His shed still makes me envious.

In that comparison, would you also have to add the price of some form of temperature controller to the chest freezer?

Kegs are just a dream for me at the moment but I'm starting to do my homework in advance.

I got a near new F&P 270L all-fridge from eBay for $152 than runs like a dream, looks great and only has the footprint of a bar fridge. No thermostat required, just use the fridge one. Holds 2 kegs, plus conditioning cube, plus a stack of hops, plus some bottles & glasses too. Second fridge I've scored from eBay now. Last one was a 400+L upside down fridge freezer that has been running fine as our main house fridge for the past 3 years. It cost $180. It pays to do your homework and take your time waiting for the right one to come along.

as example, I paid $400 - $50 I sold the CUB coupler for on eBay, it came with everything (font, tap, hoses, fittings, etc etc) so for $350 I had the complete setup! thing was it was for commercial kegs.

I wanted cornies. after replacing the plumbing, hoses, gas fittings, gas bottle, etc it still cost me around $1000 (that included my own gas bottle 6.8kg to keep forever)

would I do it again? no, I spent a lot of money. sure i'll make it back, but not for many years!

i'd much prefer a guy in blacktown on eBay selling a fridge with dual font that holds three cornies at a time for 800, much cheaper and better than the stuff I got. And thought was a bargain.

Im the same, I was quite lucky and got an awesome 360ltr all fridge off Ebay for $15, fits 4 kegs in it nicely and has room for a Cube and some other drinks or whatever, ATM im just using a Picnic Tap(works a treat), ive got 1 celli and when I get another ill prob set up 2 taps on the door.. I dont use a fridge mate for it either, just use the dial on the fridge and got it sitting at 4c..

Just bought another awesome little all fridge for $102.50 off Ebay and it fits 2 fermenters nicely(or my 1 conical) with plenty room to spare, its practically brand new and once my brew/s has finished fermenting, I can rack into Secondary, turn the fridge right down(very cold) and crash chill till I need to put into kegs..

So all in all, in my 2 fridges I can have 4 full kegs and 3 cubes Cold Conditioning or 4 full kegs, 1 cube Cold Conditioning and 2 brews fermenting.. So im very happy with that.. :super:

It pays to keep a real close eye out, ive learnt not to buy the first thing that you see, its taken a while though...

I'd definitely go for the kegmate-like flat-door ones on eBay.
I wonder if they actually are Kegmate's?
They look exactly the same. Right down to the adjustable temp and LED display on the front.

One just ended at Ebay and went for $570, plus $30 delivery to my location.
Not bad considering you get a font with two flow regulator taps, keg coupler and a gas regulator.
None of which I actually need though.

Well I bit the bullet and ordered one of the Kegmate styke ones from ebay last night. They do look very, very similar to the kegmate units. Wouldn't be surprised if they came from the same factory. Can't wait to have kegs on for Christmas. :)

It doesnt take years to make back all that money mate, only about one!

I worked out the other day, ive done about 500litres since I started, about this time last year, at a cost to me of $800 odd dollars, where as if I bought all of that beer at an average of $18 per dozen (which commercial beer is hardly this cheap) it would have cost me close to $3k!!! So ive saved a pinch over $2k in one year, which has paid for my kegging set up, AG equipment and brand new chest freezer :beerbang: Now I better start saving money again :p

just a heads up, I want to put a dual-font on this fridge. Someone posted a link to one on eBay for 80 dollars, but to attach it to your fridge you need to drill and hack a bit of the top away. Not really something I'm going to do just yet.

Out of curiosity, I emailed the bloke that's selling them on Ebay and he confirmed that they are actually kegmate units.
Also, I bought a 3 tap T-bar Lancer Pacific font from Ross (half price, bargain!) and he checked to see if it fits a kegmate
and it does without problem. As the Andale's are pretty much identical they should fit too.

Tomahawk 'Kegerator Pro' comes with a USA Standards CO2 bottle. Does anyone know if you can even get these filled here? Who would do it?

What would a person need to do to one of these to convert them over to 19L post-mix kegs?

I've been looking at kegerators on Ebay from Victoria, but I see this mob are on the Gold Coast. I'd be interested to know about the cylinder as the Victorian ones come without cylinder. However doesn't the whole deal seem a bit too cheap consider that a cylinder itself is going to cost you over $200?

Edit: you may want to repost this in "I bought a kegerator" in the gear forum as it's much more up to date.
