second hand fridge + taps with shanks = cheap. i get 4 kegs in my fridge and hence 4 beers on tap, without any dramas.

Looking for a smooth looking piece of gear to go into the unused 'leg' of the L shaped lounge room. Quite happy to have a conventional fridge in the garage with some taps sticking out of it, but spend too much time in the garage as it is  Never had any luck with second hand fridges, usually a reason why they are getting rid of it but obviously you got lucky with yours.

I've been looking at kegerators on Ebay from Victoria, but I see this mob are on the Gold Coast. I'd be interested to know about the cylinder as the Victorian ones come without cylinder. However doesn't the whole deal seem a bit too cheap consider that a cylinder itself is going to cost you over $200?

Edit: you may want to repost this in "I bought a kegerator" in the gear forum as it's much more up to date.

Thought those were the DOT approved (US) aluminium cylinders, that are very hard to get filled anywhere.

Anyhow, just bought a used 400l fridge for $65 and the cylinder, reg etc from from the guy who sells
keg kits on Ebay based in Mt Waverley.

Will end up costing about $500 all up with an Aus Standard cylinder (albeit only a 2.6Kg one)
although it does take up a bit more space than a bar fridge :)

Aha little grasshopper. I've been pussyfooting around the Ebay Kegerator deal from this guy because although I buy heaps of stuff online I haven't used Ebay yet and a bit reluctant to throw six hundred dollars at someone I am just taking on trust. So I take it that the Glen Waverley guy is kosher........ have you actually been round there or just get it couriered out to you?

Like they say all business is based on trust so the guy is ok, I'll happily purchase and recommend.

Bribie,
ebay is as safe as any other online purchasing. if u use paypal, it's automatic protection if they default. I've brought and sold all sorts of things on ebay. It actually is better than having people come to your house in a garage sale and scope you out!

The drama with ebay is like all online transactions. You've got to be sure of the product quality. You don't get the luxury of handling it and seeing it in the flesh before it hits your house! a good online ebayer will answer all ur questions if they have nothing to hide so hit them with a list and keep asking until ur satisfied. Also with ebay/online there is no automatic gratification, u've got to wait for the bloody thing to arrive!! but u generally do get it at a better price.

My final word of warning? U'll get addicted at the start of ebaying so good luck!!

Chickened out on the Ebay due to doubts about after sales service and the apparently crappy fonts that come with the deal and bought from Craftbrewer with a three way font that is actually cheaper than drilling three basic taps through a kitchen fridge. Fabulous little unit, really well made. Pulled a couple of coldies to test it out at lunchtime but rarely drink before late afternoon so I'll be giving it a nudge shortly, spent a lot more than Ebay but as they say the bitterness of a bad product lasts many years longer than the sweetness of a low price.

Beer O'clock approaching fast :icon_drunk:

Sorry for the late reply - missed this one - yes, I went round there, disturbed the family mid dinner, but he was only too glad to help.
Seems like a decent fellow, and his gear all works well for me.
Said he'd be importing some good quality fridge taps in too, so I'll be back there no doubt.
