Are they any good, any experiences or ten foot pole ?

If your talking about yumcha auber copy 1/32 controllers these are ok.
They are cheap As dirt and come in 12v and 240v versions.

I have bought 3 over the years however one let the smoke out.
 
If you are talking about STC1000 type controllers, they are usual ebay quality - mine worked fine, many others have received duds. My experience with InkBird is that for the difference in price, I will buy my next one from them.

We replaced a PID on our industrial label printer at work with a Chinese PID about 7 years ago. Never missed a beat. If you're talking STC 1000 units, my first one was bought the same time as the PID, is in constant daily use and also has never missed a beat.
 
Strictly speaking. Stc1000 are heat/cool proportional controllers. PiD controllers use a few other schemes to limit cycling and overshoot.

Yep, if I'm going cheap chinese I always buy a spare.
