My Mum lives close by a well known LHBS so i got her to pick up some Wyeast 1332 for me.

When I got the pack I noticed it was dated Jan16 2013 which I was not pleased at but I thought I would just make a starter - no problem.

I pitched the whole thing into a 1.5L starter which I make the usual way with LDME at about 1040.

Its been sitting in my kitchen for 3 days now with no visible signs of fermentation - usually I get a nice krausen - this one is dead flat. Temp is right, I have been swirling it every time I walk past it as well.

As this is the first time I have used this yeast, is this expected or should I just tip it and buy fresh yeast? I dont want to tip my Munich smash if this yeast aint up for the job.

Have you checked the gravity? Small starters can ferment out with very little sign, very quickly and you're left waiting around, wondering why it didn't work.

She's definitely fermenting this morning, huge 1inch krausen
